I have a fairly mucky gelding who loves to "bury" his poos when stabled. He also tends to walk around a fair bit. Stable is 16ft by 12ft and has full rubber mats on it. I really don't like beds that are just a sprinkling of shavings - I like to put in a good deep bed for about 3/4 of the stable and leave the front 1/4 with just matting. Help me choose from the following:
Shavings
Aubiose
Jopack Flax
Nedzbedz Pro

Cost and time come into it - I would prefer to deep litter in the week and take out the wet at w/ends. The most expensive is Aubiose at £12.49 and cheapest is shavings at £7.99 both are 120 litre bags.

Help please!!!!

I use Bed-down excel which is a mixture of straw and shavings. It is coated with something that makes the bed smell lovely and the straw unpaletable.! I put down 8 bales in a 12x12 stable and he has a lovely deep bed 3/4 of the bed with mats at front. I use one bale a week and top it up as well with shredded paper from a cross cut shredder (free extra bulk!) Ipay £6.60 a bale and use one a week. I skip out well all week and muck out, take out the wet and tuen the whole bed weekends, adding the new bale. Really quick to do, smells nice and cheaper!

I am another Bed down Excel user. I have a pony who is very very wet and I have tried loads of different beddings I pick up the droppings and remove the wet patches every 5 to 7 days. My geldings who are reasonably clean are brilliant on it and take next to no time to mucj out.

i use elephant grass its just under 6 quid a bag, and i take out about a 1/2 a barrow a day (if shes stayed in over night) she is messy too! i take out the wet every now and again! the YO uses Aubiose which is lovely but its expensive and i cant justify spending twice as much on something thats going to be pooped on!

I use Wood Pellets from Corley Bio-Wood. bought by the tonne they cost £2.34 per bag and I use about 2 per week though I have it deep with banks as no rubber matting.

I remove the pooh, flick all the edges of the bed up the banks then use a spring rake to get the little buried bits out of the base and to mix it around a bit. Take the wet out a couple of times a week. Each day out of each box I get about a quarter of a barrow and that is mainly pooh. Beds are clean and dont smell and all my horses are lying down far more than ever before and the rugs etc are cleaner.

Had a friend mucking out for me this week who had never come wood pellet bedding before and she loves it, finds it easy to muck out and far less smelly.

I use bedmax and find it great. the wee sinks in very well on a deep litter bed and the poo's sit nicely on top! Have also used Aubiose which has similar effect.
