Hi all, i have a 3yo gelding and before I got him his bedding was what looked like dirt?
I have been using Aubiose and he makes such a mess, he has been with me 2 months and he poo's everywhere, wees alot then mixes it all in and it's driving me mad!
I give him smallish banks which he leaves alone and the floor is covered in rubber matting.
As I was removing so much bedding and would have been using realisticly 4 bales of bedding a week, when they say you are meant to use 1 I have tried deep littering which was fine for a while then he kept pawing at the layer that was building up underneath which defeats the point as you are meant to leave it alone as much as possible!
He has plenty to keep him occupied in the stable so not sure why he digs up his bed!
Can anyone suggest another type of bedding?
Cant use straw as my horse is kept at my work and my boss wont allow straw.
Anyone have any idea of what this dirt type bedding may be?

Was it aquamax? or something cheaper?
My boy is really messy I use paper and cardboard, but very little of it and just take most of it out on a daily basis.... :)

My two boys are very wet. I have EVA mats and have used:

Straw - very wet and smelly. I would move 5 barrows a day and use 5-6 bales a week.

Shavings - nice but couldn't afford a full bed so they would just get a dusting each day.

Easibed - not very absorbant and a bit pricey so again, just a dusting.

Sundown yellow (chopped straw) - smells devine (eucalyptus) and my 2nd choice.

Then I gave wood pellets a go. LOVE THEM! Very absorbant, easy to work with, comfortable and I can finally afford to have deep, lush beds without it getting trashed.

I have found that a really nice deep bed works best for us. I move the wet every day and break up any clumps of dry but compacted pellets, then mix it all up to even out the damp with the over dry sides.

It is the first time I have found a bedding that ticks all the boxes for us.

My supplier is Liverpool Wood Pellets. I get a tonne at a time and they stack neatly in my shoe box tack room.

Poor you :( I have spent 2 and a half years trying every different type of bedding. My horse sounds exactly like yours! He is filthy! :(

I was going through 4 - 5 bales a week! It was the time it took also to rifle throught the bed every single morning :( to try and salvage some clean bedding.

I HAD A REVELATION!!!!!!!!!!

I decide one day, enough was enough, He is on Rubber matting and I thought sod it!! He is now on a small square of bedding in the corner with decent banks.

Every morning it takes me 5 minutes to scrape the middle out , only the banks get saved and I am down to about a bale a week or max 2!!

If you are worried about dirty rugs, don't be as regardless of size of bed, my horse lays in poo anyway. But I am about to purchase the rugs with polypropelene (sp) or teflon outers for the stable now.

I am so much happier! Yes I do love a nice big bed BUT I am getting used to a very small one now and my time is better, my pocket is heavier!

Feel so sorry for you though.

Personally I would have a trial muck out as part of a vetting!! :D
