Need your bedding reccomendations, have got 4 horses, currently on straw, all of them except for one are ridiculously dirty and we're going through alot of straw a week!
We don't have rubber matting, just concrete floors. We've been looking at aquamax bedding, for its absorbent properties, but wonder if anyone else can offer an alternative? Don't want to be paying huge prices, and we could buy in bulk as we have places to store it!
Any reccomendations appreciated!
Thanks :)

I also have a really dirty horse, i have tried most of them, for my youngster- megazorb i wasnt too keen on as the bags are really small and i had to keep putting more and more in, youngster again paper- really heavy, bedmax one of my horses is ok on it but i find it gets pretty dirty with the other one but i sometimes put a bale in to freshen the bed up, nedzbed- my pony (now sold) was really really good on this, she was a sometimes box walker but the poo would stay on top the bed didnt move all in all really good, but my bigger mare it was no good for as she scuffs her feet and would drag all the wet stuff up to the top, aubiose was also really good for the pony it worked much like nedzbed, nedzbed pro is quite good as well, i have also been on a yard where there was rubber matting already i found this was ok with shavings for my mare as i used to have big banks round the edge and then a thin bed in the middle, it wasnt any good for the pony as she used to walk the banks down and they would get dirty so i carried on using aubiose/nedzbed as if there wasnt matting, but with shavings it was quite good for my mare although she had to be on box rest and it god pretty yucky then. I now just use shavings, i use three bales a week for two horses, my mares bed stays really clean i muck her out every day and dig out the banks at least once a week and the bed stays looking really clean, my youngster is on shavings as well but is still pretty dirty, he doesn't use loads of bedding but it all looks brown but not wet if that makes sense where he moves it around and ends up with patches of concrete so i have just started doing a semi-deep litter where i scoop a bit of the wet off every day this seems to be working pretty well as the base is nice and solid and he cant move it around as much and the bed looks pretty clean. So to sum up i like shavings! But if your horse doesnt scuff nedzbed or aubiose are really good too

Wood pellets, deep littered. I don't know how I would afford to keep mine on decent beds without wood pellets. They won't give you the prettiest bed but will be very economical. I use a maximum of a bag a week for each horse (approx £2.50-3.00). It forms a very solid base that even the messiest horse doesn't really manage to disturb. Mucking out is very quick too.

i tried everything then moved yard and used bedmax which i hate then tried wooburn the little so soak up nice and you dont waste any i found them so great for my horse
but you must take out wee every day :) x
