Bedding - sawdust instead of shavings

I've just had new stables built and have previously used straw but I'm fed up with the mess and trying to dispose of it. I'm thinking of putting down mats and using minimal bedding to soak up any mess but given the scarcity of shavings can anyone advise if they have successfully used sawdust. I've found a source which is guaranteed to be metal free and I don't intend to lay deep beds. Grateful for any views.

Sounds good, but sawdust is unbelievably dusty! It could cause you a lot of problems for your horses and huge vet bills.

Someone I know uses it, they have mats and have a couple of inches or so all over the floor, except doorway. Seems to work well for them.

hi i use rubber mats and sprinkle sawdust over them to absorb the urine.i wouldn't use anything else it is cost effective, and very absorbant i am abigfan and also it isn't that dusty in fact no dustier than shavings and i am ashmatic

yo uses the dust on mats
i dont like it-you can see the dust in the air and any water if the horses move about.
i tried it-it was good for the wet but the horses both got coughs

Use wood pellets instead of sawdust as less dusty and far more absorbent.
