Bliss because we had to move onto it when new YM took over; I now love it and wouldn't want to go back to shavings, but at £7.70 a bale it is not the cheapest!!
I get more volume of bedding out of a Bliss bale than a bale of shavings however, and it is very absorbent, but the initial price is very dear. If I could, I would be on a straw/shavings mix.
I have rubber mats on the front half of the box and Bliss on the back half (stable is 15 x 13 ft); when things get a bit easier money wise then I will put mats down at the back
I use shavings and rubber matting, tho my beds that deep it's bloody pointless having the rubber matting!
Although to be fair, my mares stay in during the summer too and I do actually make use of the matting then. It's quick and easy - but I always feel mean!!
See I am wondering whether to get rubber matting , I want to try and cut down on what I'm spending when it comes to bedding , I was thinking of rubber matting and straw ?
Now that I know Madam isn't going to try and eat the whole thing . Plus I do think straw is warmer but can be a devil to clean out .
Rubber matting because my horse refuses to lay down otherwise (but I've only got about 1/4 of the stable covered so far). Shavings on top as my horse devours straw and 1) gets fat, 2) chokes, 3) gets dust in her airways then coughs and gets nosebleeds, and 4) eats the entire bed in one night and then colics. I have a high-maintenance beast
I actually hate shavings but I needed some bedding quick and it was all I could get hold of at short notice. Once it's gone I will think about putting her on something else (was considering Aubiose/similar).
Straw as I deep litter and it rots down nicely, plus it looks lush and cozy
With rubber matting by the door for his tootsies when he stands there, though only really have it because I pilfered when it was hanging around the yard and nobody claimed/wanted it.
Aubiose for me! Been on it for a week and so far am loving it. Shavings here are about to go up to £8.50 a bale for Hunters, so at £9 a bale Aubiose isn't so bad, especially as I seem to be using a lot less in the long term, plus I can kinda deep litter and remove the wet once a week.
straw, because i have a farmer who delivers and helps stack it and it`s cheap.also,if i get low on it he will come out with more in a couple of days and is reliable.have semi-deep litter at the moment because i have 4 to do.
straw, no rubber matting as I'm on full livery so they muckout and give him a huge bed. When I was on DIY he had rubber matting as he was on shavings and dug holes everywhere.
