Thanks for replies, got to live within 10 miles radius of the hospital if we moved, which are the good, rural, horsey areas where I can hack on bridleways? If we were moving I would contact the BHS to get info.
There are yards around Box End, a school there used to hold shows. I have seen some bridleways marked, but the roads look busy to me. Keysoe have the EC, the hacking looks better out that way.
Quite good hacking around Thurleigh/Keysoe area (you can ride round farmer's fields etc and even into Bedford itself (not that you'd want to!)......DOn't know if it's still there but during my stay in Bedford i kept my horse at a yard in CLapham, Bedford. It looked like it was in a housing estate but it backed onto an airfield and you could then hack for quite a way It was off Mount Pleasant Road in Clapham.
I've kept my horse at another yard in Bedford that I wouldn't recommend AT ALL!! but PM of you'd like details
There are stables in Maulden, Steppingly, Millbrook and Lidlington all of which have access into the woods and are close to Marston Millenium park (but that would be a drive from Maulden). Also Cranfield has some yards, very good bridle ways but quite a bit of road work to get to some of them
Many thanks to everyone. Hubbie is not applying for any job at the hospital unless I find out about places for Wooley first! He may not even apply but there you are!! would like any Info, send me a PM
If the other half does get the job then keep an eye on Beds on Sunday and Chiltern and Thames Rider. There are also often adverts at equisense in maulden. There are a couple of BHS places and euwstrian centres however there are more than enough smaller livery yards. I quite often hear of vacancies from friends so if you do come down then PM me and I will ask around for the smaller livery yards.
We are quite lucky with competitions down here College EC, Addington EC and Milton keynes Eventing Centre are all under an hrs drive. Patchetts and Lordsbridge are a bit further. There are also smaller ones such as Bury Farm, Wilstead, Manor farm etc. Along with riding clubs such as Aspley Guise, Beds and district, Offley, Emberton, Leighton Buzzard and Stanbridge to mention just a few.
If you look on the Biggleswade Saddlery website they have local shows and their schedules.
I put an ad looking for grazing in Top End Stoes at Little Staughton which is the main feed store for North East Beds. I had quite a few responses, none were what I was looking for although most sounded nice if it was the arrangement you wanted. One sounded lovely, but was too far for my 15yo to cycle to in the school hols.
