Hi, have been offered a Bedford AWD 7.5 tonne lorry H Registration for 2.5K. It has 6 months left on MOT and person selling says very reliable lorry.

This will be the first lorry I have ever bought or driven! and would really appreciate if anyone would let me know if they think this is a good price (am in Scotland) and their thoughts on the lorry itself as to reliability and how wasy they are to drive!!

Have bene told it has a rear ramp and person paid 4K for it just over a year ago, but they have more horses now and need something bigger.

This would need to carry 2 x 16.3's and a large 14.3.

All comments appreciated.

Thanks

I would agree with the above. Check it is a 7.5 Ton or 6.5 Ton one.

Bedfords have not been in production for nearly 20 years now so they are not worth more than scrap value. £1,000 at most if they have a good container on them. If you buy it and need parts then join the Bedford Club or keep an eye on Ebay for parts.

Yup check the laden weight (don't forget that means include your horses, you, passengers, tack, equipment, water, full tank of diesel etc etc) but also bear in mind that parts for these older lorries are getting very hard to come by (same as with Ivecos).

Be very careful about buying this vehicle as you say you need to carry 2 x 16h3" & a large 14h3". I doubt that the vehicle will be within its weight limits when you've got them all on board. I don't want to be a killjoy but this is why many lorries are described as 2 horse/3 pony now because for years horseboxes have been driven massively overweight & the police & ministry men are really tightening up on them now.
