I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful 3.5t lorry. I don't know anything about the Bedfords so would love to hear your experiences, good or bad!

I used to have a Bedford CF, she would now be 30 years old, loved it. It had an Ifor William back with loading back ramp and a side ramp. Horses always travelled well in it and it was great on hot summer shows as you undid the ramps and a lovely breeze went through it. We found parts for it easily when needed, dad used to do any repairs and should be even easier now as they have broken down a load of the old bedford green goddesses. The only reason we sold her 3 years ago was because we got a Bedford TK so had living rather than luton cab.

Thanks that's really helpful :) I presume they're quite light? As I can only drive a 3.5t the bigger the payload the better really. Ideally I'd like something I can get 2 horses in (max weight 800kg, one 14.2hh one 15.2hh).

I carried a 15:3hh TB and 14hh NF in ours. I have to do a test to tow a trailier but the DVLA said I was fine in the lorry. I do wish I had it back at times rather than the 7.5 tonne that I'm going to need to do a test on, means I'm now reliant on my dad to take me out again. With the little on me and a friend used to head out to go riding on hard to get to bridle ways

Actully mike, that is tosh, I had a bedofrd tk.. Ive got a huge list of parts dealers very easy to get hold of and OP.. the bedfords of all types are renown for going on for ever.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated! It's times like these I wish I had a mechanic friend. Why are all the men in my life such pansies?? :)

Ok another question then. If you had a choice between a VW LT35 and a Bedford CF2 (similar age, condition, mileage etc), which would you go for?
