Doe any of you fellow H&H ladies and gents, use bedmax shavings, they are on offer for £6.10 if I buy 48. This is in local feed store. I do use natural flake at moment but they have gone quite expensive and my supplier has switched to bedmax.
They look similar in size of shavings, and I like feel of them. One horse is tidy in stable but big lad is bit messy and does love sleeping lying down in stable.
Any opinions ?

They make them near us so I have used them for years .
I like them because they are the nearest thing to straw for the horses feet I have ever found without the stink and spores and the huge muckheap .
We do not deep litter them though the bed are mucked out and stacked daily like straw .

I don't really like them as one of my horses wee's for England he goes when you put him in, he goes after you have fed him, he goes when you get there in the morning ...you get my drift ! So I find smaller flakes better as the clump together or I use Megazorb underneath and shavings on top. He also uses poo as a pillow wierdo :-)

I used them and liked them. They were cheap, very absorbent and quick to muck out. Seem to have stopped doing them by me though. They chop and change a fair bit so mine just has a mixture of whatever shavings are dust extracted.

I have used them in the past. Did like the big one, but the kids hated it. Just as it was different. Did like the littlemax, I think it is what is called and more to the kids like. I thought with the big bedmax I had less waste of flakes. But, it needed something comfy on top hence the little max. Hope it makes sense :)

Nice stuff but felt the need to use shavings as a base as it just wasn't soaking up pee. Also, you may find you throw out more chips as they don't fall through the shavings fork. And, the bales are quite on the light side. If I was richer , I would use them instead of shavings but I just don't think they're financially viable just now. I like to buy a bale now and again for my bankings as it smells lovely!

There not really designed to be absordant , which is why I like them.
I don't like bedding that packs the feet easily .
Dry bedmax is like straw in this respect.

I used to use them then changed to Littlemax as my farmer that takes the muck wasn't keen on them for farm manure. Then gave them up when after more than one occasion I found some really sharp shards of wood in them and dreaded finding one stuck in the side of my horse! Now I use Equestrobed, similar and local and cheaper as I buy 60 at a time.

I really liked bedmax to semi deep litter on. Just picked out in the week and took the really wet out about once a week as needed. Lovely big bed and very stable. I found them really absorbent. A mixture of big flakes and smaller ones and the big flakes tended to stay near the top of the bed.

My boy was pretty wet but didn't move round much and seemed to step over his pops though, so didn't churn it up.

We use bed max for mine. They are cheap for quality and always available, last year we struggled to get anything else. Not very easy to muck out with a shavings fork as the flakes are too large so a little practice is needed to not waste all the clean bits!! it can also get dusty when my sister doesn't sweep up properly!!! I deep littered one horse and it worked VERY well and only needed a bale every week and a half or so, and he is also one who holds his wee untill he couldn't possibly have more wee in him and then floods the place! Others are on normal beds but find its better with a snowflake mixed in just to lighten it up!

I've found Bedmax to be one of the least dusty ones compared to some of the cheaper shavings you can get now and I did use Littlemax too last year after trying various cheap options and none of them being great. Think with bedding it's horses for courses :). Aubiose will always be my favourite bedding of choice but can't justify the cost at the moment.

I used to use Bedmax but it's not very absorbent. I used to have to top up with half a bale everyday for a horse I had who was very wet. Also, there could on occasion be quite big shards of wood in the bales - I found a piece stuck in my mares heel once. Luckily it hadn't gone in too far. I stopped using them after that.

I love bedmax shavings! I find the bales are small but they must be tightly packed as there always seems to be loads in them. 2 bales made a very thick good bed for our 15.2hh when she went away to camp. I can find plenty that are cheaper as theyre £7.65 a bale around us, but none as good xx

My friend and I have always liked Bedmax shavings and bought them in bulk whenever there was a special offer on them. However, lately there have been numerous large splinters and sharp pieces of wood in them, so we are switching to Countrywide own brand.
