I’m trying to find a XS (to fit a Shetland size pony) fly hood with UV protection that stands away from the eyes properly.
ideally something I can fit a headcollar over for security (or weld do his head)
Any ideas? If anyone has a little one to sell I’d be v interested!

I would recommend looking at the equivisor website as they specialise in fly masks and masks for veterinary purposes - I had a recovery mask which was amazing but probably ott for what you need.nThey seems to do a fly mask that is designed to stay off the face which might be worth a try (foal size?). There is very good customer service and I found Penny really helpful to talk through what I needed

Second this advice. They are extremely expensive and I winced when I had to buy Alice hers, especially when the insurers refused to pay for it, but it really has been a game changer for Alice. I had to speak to the UK supplier (Penny) a couple of times regarding sizing. The product is manufactured/designed in Australia and Penny advised me to go for extra full which I doubted as Alice is a cob/small hunter type not a big horse. The visor comes with a UV fly cover which is shaped to fit over the visor, you can also buy varying levels of tints for the vizor. The eye specialist advised me what to buy.

Fitted correctly it stays put very well, I did buy some sheepskin sleeving to protect the points of the jaw and over the poll. Just the velcro closing sleeves that are normally seen on fluffy headcollars. It is not the most flattering bit of kit and she does get some strange looks when out hacking in it, but we haven't had any more eye episodes since it arrived.

I looked at Equivisor and just decided for my situ (hopefully) it’s an overkill. My vet hopes he will only need it short term, as in another week or so.
He hates wearing fly hoods so it will just be a waste of money. I do wish I’d known about equivisor with our old horse though, they sound like they would have been worth every penny.
If this turns into a longer term issue I will invest.
I have bought a shires for now. I got the no ears, actually cheap version because I think it may be more comfortable as his huge forelock can do it’s thing over the top. I wonder if I can attach it to his muzzle headcollar in the long run.
