I have been told of a horse in my area that is for sale and just wondered how much you would all pay for:

16.1hh Rgd irish sports horse gelding, jumping brit nov clears with potential to go further (not yet affiliated), jumping 1.20 with ease at home, perfectly mannered across fields x country, well mannered and responsive ride, snaffle mouthed at all times, absolutley bombproof on roads (seen tractors, ambulances, HGV lorries) good enough to show WH, ridden hunter classes.
excellent stable manners,to box clip etc.

just wanted your thoughts without posting the price just yet
Thanks

How old is he ?
When you say jumping double clear BN but not yet affiliated ...

If he is fairly young 4-6 and with good basic conformation and no vices then in the region of 4-6K

having seen essex prices i would have said £4750 to £5000 because horses seem to be extortionate here- I only know as I am looking too!

Well I would say 8 - 10k if all that is true - needs to be seriously good quality for county standard WH or hunter classes....plus perfect manners, bombproof - snap him up!

have been told by my instructor all said above is gospel truth, instructor also used to judge at county level shows (i'm a bit of a novice when it comes to showing

IF (and it would take more than the word of an ex show judge to be honest) the horse is good enough to compete and win at proper county level (i.e. HOYS and RIHS qualifiers rather than affiliated non qualifier classes) then you could be looking at up to £10-12k. However, I would have thought that if he were that good, then someone would have already snapped him up!

If he is good enough to compete in the HOYS qualifiers and be well placed each time, then I would have said £8-10k.

If he could take part in HOYS qualifiers but not usually be in the top six, then I would go for £6-8k.

The above also dependson whether his temperament is really as good as described.

One other thing to bear in mind is that 16.1 is not that big for an open hunter (you can get away with it in workers but the weight classes are a little bigger). If he is a proper 16.1, then fine, but if he is a high withered 16.1, then you will look too small in the open weight classes.

If you go to see him, it is worth putting a stick on him as you may well find out that without shoes you have a 15.2 small hunter rather than a 16.1 LW!!!

Having said all that, he sounds like a really nice horse - the type that I would like!

Don't suppose you have any pictures?
