been put off showing today!

Next time I'm deffo doing the jumping but the working hunter looks fun as well might have a go at that anyone know what bylcream is?

Brylcream is hair gel :p
Sounds like you had a bad day :o I don't do showing with Red, conformation is not up to much and his legs aren't the tidiest, I'll stick to SJ I think ;)

It's ok - I was at a show on Sunday and my other half was SJ. The judges gave a clear round to someone who had actually got 4 faults for a refusal - although 5 people informed the judgethat the competitior had had a refusal at a fence the judge said she would have remembered and placed her 3rd when she should not have been placed.
Ho hum - at least it was a local show and nothing drastic :)

Actually a tweed jacket is correct for Riding Horse Class not a navy one. You can always google for advice if you're not sure. If there are 20 in a class it's just not feasible for the judge to give everyone a comment so best not to give anyone one. Did you have horse with you when you & friend asked judge what you'd done wrong? Judges usually remember the horse before they remember the rider. It is annoying when the spirit of the class is ignored by judges & competitors alike but not all shows / judges will be like that so try another show. Good Luck

LOL! I tend to get booked far in advance!

tradition dictates that buttonholes are not worn with tweed.

Depends who you talk too. A couple of panel judges (HOYS ect) I know always wear a button hole with tweed. Tradition is a simple flower, blue cornflower or something similar.

Local shows can often have judges that don't really know what they're doing. It's so frustrating and people never learn to improve. Try and find local shows with a good reputation for showing. They tend to get judges that know a bit more!

mari- we went to the judges after the class had finished and asked them while we were still riding so no excuses for not knowing as they wrote it all down!
