I am doing two dressage tests tonight and a different 2 on sunday with a jumping lesson tommorow. I also did 2 new tests on sunday. My brain is completly overloaded with loops and cirlces etc - I can't imagine what possessed me to enter so many

competitions close together

Has anyone got any tips for learning tests quickly as I dare not start learning the ones for Sunday today as the ones I am doing tonight are a bit dodgy in my memory and there is no caller. Someone might be able to call for me on Sunday but I only have the dressage diagram test not the proper BD one

Edited to say that any help needs to be suitable for the brain of a totally knackered person as well please

Thats what I do!!! I learn the first by heart and the second I glance at. Then at the comp I can be found trotting and cantering my way around an imaginary arena!!!

Actually thats a good idea

I have been going over the tests in my head at spare momments, sketching them but actually walking them in the garded would be a different way of learning them. I was wondering if I could pin a cheat sheet to my glove - I'm OK if I can remember the order that the movements go in - for example a circle, cross for change of rein etc - but I think this might be cheating

I draw an arena on a piece of paper then follow it with my finger

I wonder if there would be a market for a model of an arena with a model horse to move around to learn tests

is that on horseback or on your own legs?

TBH I can now learn most tests up to Novice (20x40 arena) in a couple of minutes, but I do have a weird brain!

So how do you set about learning them?

I have been trying to identify the pattern instead of rote learning - e.g. P4 is 3 loops, change of rein, loop, change of rein, walk to D then trot to G - this makes it a bit easier. How do you do it?

Thats it, I do the pattern on the paper rather than learn the letters. I think its just a case of practise, and as I said before I do have a wierd brain that just remembers things easily!!!!
I only ever learn one test at a time as well, so if I have 3 tests to ride in one day, learn the first one then when that test is done, I sit in the car and learn the next one, otherwise you just end up getting confused.

I would be too terrified of now remembering it in time to do that..... although maybe I need to do that on Sunday
