Been threatened with the RSPCA!

To kill 2 birds with one stone how about a sign along the lines of "please do not feed the horses, they are on a medical diet, if you have any concerns about their welfare please call me on 12334 or the RSPCA"
Hopefully this will give people the impression you have nothing to worry about re welfare but won't put off genuine concerns.

Many years ago we had a visit from the RSPCA in response from a neighbour whose house overlooked our pony's field. She had reported that a pony was left out in all weathers day and night without any food. (It was a new forest pony on 10acres of winter pasture with ad lib hay fed on far side of field. It also had 2 bucket feeds a day. He was slim and fit as he was ridden every day).
The RSPCA inspector instantly realised it was a very well cared for animal.
My father found out who had reported us and went to visit. He thanked her profusely for being so caring about animals and explained all about our pony, its breeding and how it was kept. He explained that we never fed any tidbits and didn't want other people to and explained why. Upshot was we became friends and we never had to worry about our pony as there was always someone watching over it!
Better that people over report neglect than ignore it. Don't get mad, use it as a way to educate and maybe save another horse in the future.
