Beeston Sales - Has anyone ever taken a horse there?

I have agreed to prepare and take a horse to Beeston Sales for someone, but I've never actually been there, so I was wondering if someone could tell me what to expect when I get there?
How early before the sale do potential buyers get there?
Do people try the horses (ridden) before the sale?
I've only ever taken horses to Bloodstock Sales (Doncaster, Ascot etc), I have no experience of the smaller markets, so any info is much appreciated.:o

The only good thing about beeston is the road out!! I hate the place its a pure hell hole!! I use to ride ponies for a dealer and have ridden there we just trot round the carpark etc. (10years ago), Its always know as the place people send the rubbish(bad horses etc), but saying that we bought some very good ponies and a few misfits!!.
If your use to Ascot and Donny you will have some shock
 
I have never taken a horse there!!

But people do try them there is a bit at the back or they ride them in a car park if someone is intrested!!
I dont know what time people are aloud to start looking all i know is the horses sale starts at 11 o'clock and no buyers are aloud in there after 11!!

There staff are not the best handlers in the world so if i was you i would take him/her in yourself!!

I went a few years back and as others have said, it was a hell hole, meat men used to be stood there in white overalls bidding on the poor horses and ponies, Ive heard lately though that it has been cleaned up abit, there is supposed to be a vet there now checking all horses over etc but as I've not been in years I couldn't say how true it is.

Sadly they still do it there the OP will have a shock we have only brought from there and he was in a right sorry poor way he was only 2 lovely little chap!! And i agree the only good thing is the road out!!

I have never seen a vet there and i still go for the tack!! Its still a hell hole!!

Ive never been but it hasnt got a good reputation. Oldenburg - Ive heard you can pick up saddles at a reasonable price is this true? Also that the saddle sale is before the horse sale.
 
Thanks for the replies so far, I am aware it won't be anything like Ascot or Donny, but I wanted to hear some experiences from people who have been there.:)
The horse I'm taking is actually quite nice, and won't go for meat (will put a reserve on her, and if she only makes meat money I'll buy her myself).
The only reason she's going there is because the owner has lost interest, doesn't want to spend the time and money to sell her privately, and comes from a generation that sees nothing wrong with buying and selling horses at market.:(
I will be the only one handling the horse (apart from potential buyers trying her out) until she's loaded on the transport to her new home, and I will do my best to present her in such a way as to attract the best possible price.:)
I'm also trying to sell her through word of mouth before the sale, but not having much luck at the moment:(
 
I go to beeston a lot {i am going on the 9th feb} its not a hell hole, but some times there will be thin horses/youngsters there, there is just as much chance of finding a good home at a sale as selling privetly how many horrer storys have we heard from people selling to "nice" people nothing is garanteed in life.
 
hey, i bought my first pony from there unbroken and as wild as anything (11.3hh) i bought her for a very small sum of £120! she is now jumping 1m+ courses:eek: and there is not 1 single problem with her (touch wood) ;D im trying to persuade my dad if i can go on the 9th but if not i will definitely be going on the 16th!, could you please send me an email of the horse with details? + i think it is a good market to start off with friendly auctioner and staff,good luck if i dont see you there!:D
