Hey,

I have got some cross country training coming up and I would like some tips. I have only done cross country once and that was only doing a water jump, ditch, tyres and also some working hunter fences. My horse is a good jumper but around other horses she can be a bit funny and tries to refuse or run out. She can also be a bit spooky at home and away but she settles down after a while. She has done hunting before and the XC I was talking about before.

Does anyone have any tips or any help for XC for me and her?
Thanks!

See that's the thing, I only got my mare last summer and I don't have anything 'spare' ;) I'm getting new strip leathers but I think my old ones are too small :L

might be able to pick one up off a fellow livery who has old ones which have stretched / lost the matching pair etc? Would save buying an actual neckstrap, which is a bit daft imo...

How short are your leathers or how big is your mare's neck for your current ones not to fit though

Well I havent actually tried :L but she does have a thick neck and I have short legs. I also keep her at home but ill try my stirrup leathers or borrow a friends :)

haha you're just difficult  I can't imagine not having spares of everything :o I clearly have way too much stuff! :D

Hahaha xD :D I wish I had more horsey stuff! Well, I have a spare noseband and bit and plenty grooming brushes! I've seen people with millions of numnahs but I only have two! I'm getting a new one for competitions ect :)

just you wait till you've owned her for a few years... You'll be amazed at what you end up with  I have about 10 bridles between 3 horses :o But I've had over a decade to accumulate them :D

A breast plate will do fine as a neck strap! Don't worry about it. Just enjoy yourself. Are you having a lesson or just going for a play on an open day or something? Ride around and let your horse settle down and get used to everything before you jump. Start with simple fences that you are confident on. End on a good note (don't let the horse get too tired..) Have fun!

I'd say get a neckstrap & remember its fun! Just assume she'll be fine & she probably will be. Enjoy it is my main advice!
