Hi guys! Need some ideas from you all;
My 20yo cob has just moved back to his old yard with his old field mate. A few weeks ago field mate's owner told me she'd put field mate in a seperate paddock as Bailey was being too heavy hooved with the back legs at hay time. Usually they bicker amongst themselves for a few minutes before deciding which pile they want and that's that. I haven't seen this behaviour first hand have just taken her word for it as I know coblet can be grumpy about his food.
Today, hayed coblet in his field, wheeled wheelbarrow over to next paddock to hay his field mate when I hear a clatter of hooves behind me, coblet was cantering after me and the wheelbarrow and I had to flap arms and shout a lot to get him to leave me alone and get to the other paddock. Can't understand why he would go for me and the wheelbarrow when he had his own hay?
When I had put the hay over the fence, bailey was marching up the fence line and trying to bite field mate over the fence!!
Does this behaviour indicate anything? Not sure what its all about .... He's fine with his feed bucket and doesn't barge me to get at it, but gets naughty at hay time!!!
Any clue anyone? I'm baffled!!! Might also be worth mentioning 2 nights ago he'd gone through the fencing into field mates field to eat his hay, but left his own?? They're fed the same hay from the same bale!!
