I am going call vets tomorrow but thought I'd ask here for anyone's idea/advice.
Our mares behaviour has changed in what appears over night 🥺 usually she's the type to stand and be groomed all day loves a good fuss. But she tried to bite me today whilst grooming which is very out of character. She's eating and going toilet as normal no changes in those areas at all and she doesn't look to of lost weight no change in diet.
When she first went bite me she got told off but then I noticed as I went towards her stomach her ears was back and she would turn her head towards me. It's the same both sides. And she was same tonight came upto me for a fuss but as soon as I put my hand on her stomach especially near the girth line ears back and moved away. I tried put her rug on and she was fine with it on her back but as soon as I went to do it up she gave me a warning, again ears back and walked off, all very out of character.
Can't find anything different on the outside so my guess is something causing pain inside which is why going phone vet but thought I'd ask incase anyone has had anything similar.

It would be a classic for ulcers, but if you find that it is ulcers then unless you have changed her management, I'd be looking hard for a physical pain which might have caused them, like hock issues.
.
agree hock issues are so common and cause ulcers. wet haylage etc to wont help. have a look at ponease its amazing for horses with ulcers

Thank you I will have a look, we had a scope and found ulcer luckily not bad, not sure if we just happened to catch it early as i got hold the vet pretty quick once the behaviour changes but currently on gastgaurd treatment. But we need find the cause. Vet did say possibly hocks but wants to look how she is after couple weeks of treatment. Doesn't think its down to feed or environment as she's usually pretty calm and relaxed, no food changes.
