Can anyone shed any light on why my gelding urinates every morning after Ive greeted him, whether Im early or late, without fail? Would be interested to know your theories

Hi, I'm female and he's stabled over the winter. I did wonder whther it was because of anticipation of going out to the field or possibly that he was about to be fed??

a lot of the horses on my yard will have a wee first thing in the morning when i get there, suppose their just getting ready to go out for a play so lightening the load?1

Ralph does it as soon as I feed him and then again when he starts his hay....or any feed come to that

I could strangle my girl sometimes. Without fail, every single time she comes in from the field, her head goes down into her feed bowl and her bladder (the size of the Atlantic ocean) opens up on her nice clean bed. Doesn't matter if she comes in early or late. Head in bowl, pee on floor. I think it's just a habit thing that develops from one or two coincidental times and bingo, the link is there in the horse's head.

I have a 23 yr old ex National Hunt horse, 17.2hh, who comes into the stable in the morning and if his feed isn't in the manger he backs up to it and poos into it. It's not a new thing, he's done it since he was a youngster!

My mare who wees facing backwards towards the door so it sprays all over the door and runs down underneath. She does this if I keep her in overnight and am late coming with her dinner!

Talk about attitude!

Urinating is a sign of excitement! ie if your about to feed him or turn him out. I have a yard of 8 horses and when I come onto the yard at 7am every morning without fail every single one of them starts to urinate! a bit annoying as I usually try to catch it in a bucket if its only one horse, but 8, come on give me a chance!!

I feed about 40 horses every morning and I would say about 60%, mainly geldings have a pee in anticipation! Bless.
My boy does it when he comes in from the feild, so I always have a bucket handy for him

I get a bucket and catch it so it is one less wet patch on the bed. Folk laugh at me but it saves a lot of mess. I like to leave her with a nice clean bed when I go home.
