Morning all...

Well, as I had to withdraw from T'down ODE, I decided to offer to help. Ann Allen was organisor, and she asked me to join her in the scoring room....

I can honestly say I'll never complain about how long it takes for scores to come through.... I was welcomed by them all, who showed me how to do everything as I was a 'virgin' scorer!!!

Although I can't say too much - I've been sworn to secrecy - I was present as they balloted an event! All I can say is that I'll never ask for too much

And they seemed to prefer on-line entries and admitadly they are soooo much easier to read that the hand written ones.

I will def offer to help again, and it was fabby seeeing BB's do well on the lovely Winnie - I spied her dressage test as I was running to the s-j to collect score sheets.. He looked amazing and naughty BB's for forgetting which way to go!

So - all in all, a very interesting day, and anyone else who can, I'd suggest you offer to help - you never know it could be the deciding factor in a 'ballot'!!!

Im still sitting hear with bated breath to find out if you balloted me LOL!

Tis interesting, ive helped for year, stewarding and even thats an eye opener.

Im gutted you didnt get to ride the Bon Monster round, but i really appreciated your help and walking the course - twas lovely to see you again

I scored at Stafford and all I can say is OMG...you do not stop all day. We've done lots of different events in control box or jump judging but that was my first time scoring and it's tough! I also said I would never complain again about scores not being up 2 minutes after finishing!!!
 
My mum often scores at Burgie, she always gets all the gossip from around the country. I don't mind scoring but I won't add up dressage tests, I'm too scored I will get it wrong. Its also a bit annoying being suck away from it all.
 
yea -it was good to see you and the winnie boy too!

Bon Monster had new clogs at 7am yesterday (yawn) and upon realising she felt OK on gravel, passaged the whole ride!!!

can't wait to event now - will not know when for a bit as i'm off to USA for a bit in May!!!!

I do hope you aren't balloted and I def didn't have anything to do with it!!

I did the dressage sheets and actually really enjoyed it, but they were easy ones out of 200. doubt i could do ones out of 210! Next time i'll go prepared with a calculator!!! Some of the comments from the judges were mind boggling though!

I help out at Malpas but the only thing I'll do is XC collecting ring steward - I'm such an idiot about filling in forms, adding up etc, it's the only safe thing for me to do! I love it though even though we don't get to see much action from anything else.
Only thing I would say to all you competitors is - a smile and a thank you cost nothing - and possibly similar to the ballotting mentioned above, it makes us go the extra mile for you; we're always pleased to help 'nice' people out but bolshy or rude, demanding ones definitely aren't welcomed!!
 
My old school helps out at western park in the autumn and those who go are kept very busy.
I fence judge, dressage write and steward the SJ at Burgie and also fence judge at little mattingly. It is a fab experience and its only when you help out you realise how much effort is put it.
My sister scored at Allerton horse trails and she also said she will never moan again about scores going up.

I actually really enjoyed it - saw b*gger all really and on such a hot day it was a shame to be inside, however I emailed today to say pls call on me again!

And there are alot of people who do not appreciate any of the things that happen and they are remembered when the scientific method of balloting is undertaken!!!

We used to run a BE event (sooo many years ago it was a BHS event) and that is VERY hard work!! back in the day when you had to ring for times, i remember having to sit by the phone for 3 or 4hrs solid while the phone rang and rang.

lol back in the day... before everyone had internet access!

I used to work on a yard at Aston-Le-Walls so got to offer my help for each event.. and yes it was hard work! Did some SJ course-building, scoring, up in the commentary box, fence judging, dressage stwewarding...aswell as the MASSIVE tidy-up afterwards. Was always a knackering week! Would much rather be on the competing side of things

My mum usually scores at Tweseldown and most of Ann's other events so I go and help her from time to time and youre right, its a real eye-opener!!

Oh - perhaps I met her then!! Or was she not there on Saturday. I embarassingly can't recall the names of hte ladies who were there!

Helping isn't an "option" in Ireland, everyone has to help at three events per year (or supply a helper). Still always seem to need more though.
