Being car sick- does it improve?

New pup is sick every time we go in the car even if she ate 4 hours previously, have tried covering the crate so she can't see anything in case that helps but no joy. Does it improve or are some dogs bad in the car- never come across this before.

Two of my Labrador dogs where sick in the car as pups they both grew out of it .
Perhaps speak to the vet they may be able to give something to help.
 
My yorkie puppy (she was a rescue, 6 months old when I got her) was terribly car sick at the beginning. She grew out of it after 6 months or so. Lots of towels in the car!!
 
Unfortunately they don't always grow out of it - Amy greyhound was sick on the day I picked her up (in the last 5 minutes before we got home, the previous hour and a half had been fine....) and she is still sick if we go on a longer journey, regardless of when/if she has eaten :( I've never had a problem with any of my other dogs though!
 
My JRT was car sick as a puppy even on very short journeys, she got better as she got older and now she is never sick she was a year old in October, I think most of them grow out of it.
 
Yes it does improve. You need to travel every day or as often as possible. Short journeys if you can with something fun happening at the other end such as a fun walk.
The first whippet we bred was car sick even though her mother was not. Gradually she could go further until it stopped altogether.
My daughter had a young rescue that hated the car, drooled and was sick. She just kept at it as it was imperative the dog travelled with her. I think some people would have given up but she won in the end and the dog travelled all over the country.
My latest rescue lurcher was travel sick and when I wanted to go from Hertfordshire to Badminton the vet prescribed ACP and Cerenia. She slept the whole way but was drowsy that day. When we came back 4 days later I risked just the Cerenia (anti sickness tablet), she was fine and never ever sick again. Good Luck, you will get there.
 
My whippet Nonny was very car sick when I first got her, 2 mins in the car, and she had covered the boot in sick. I just travelled her every day for increasing amounts, and never fed her for at least 12 hours before travelling. After about 7 days she was ok, now she does 6 - 10 hours in the car every day ( I am a driving instructor and she comes with me every day). She loves it, just jumps straight in along with my bedlington and the only sound I hear is the two of them snoring as lessons go on.
 
my previous lurcher was terrible in the car and i did all the short journeys to her walks in the forest and it didnt work. i then had to go from london to blackpool as we were staying with friends for a couple of weeks and she had to come with us. i got some sedatives from the vet and only gave her a low dose so she was drowsy but not asleep, we stopped a few times on the way and she was fine. we then did short journeys whilst with my friends and she was fine...didnt use the sedative for the home journey and she was ok. i think she was just frightened of the car and then realised that nothing bad happened....
 
As some here will know, I used to breed and train gun dogs. Pups have being sick in the car down to a fine art. If they are sat on the passenger seat they will vomit 100 yards before reaching the destination regardless of the length of the journey, always into the space between the seats where it is difficult to clean. This is bred into them and perfectly natural. They do it to be annoying.

The cure is to make the first journeys quite short culminating in something they like. For me, that was easy, as the pups were conveyed to the training ground where they'd encounter lots of game - so very exciting! By the end of a week of this they would be fighting to get into the truck and no more vomiting.
 
It took till mine was 2yr old and if we hadnt used Sturgeron, and started leaving all the windows open a crack I dont think he would ever have gotten any better. He still drools a little bit sometimes, but using the Sturgeron definitely helped us get him to the point where he was fine to travel. He still gets it for long journeys but is fine up to about 10miles drug free now :D
