My boss was asked to judge the Dressage Champs I am doing in April. Luckily she is at a BE event on the day so can't judge.
This has got me thinking if she was to judge I comp I was entered in, as I am just an employee can she judge me? I know she can't judge her daughter or one of her horses.
I know she wouldn't at all be biased towards me, in fact I suspect she would be rather harsh and I doubt anyone would know I worked for her, but if someone did could they use it to complain?

i always thought that you couldnt be judged by your trainer or it at least had to be declared???????? only have an idea about that as trainer was a judge n was a few years ago!!

Ah now my boss isn't my trainer, her daughter is.
I very much doubt I will be in a comp that she is judging, but maybe I shouldn't do one that she is, I don't want to cause problems.

I know a friend who competes affiliated dressage at advanced medium and is often judged by her trainer. Both of them are very ethical so I don't think its a problem.

A girl I know that events was judged by her boss/trainer, funnily enough she was leading after the dressage..........I watched her test too, it wasn't that good

People will try complain about anything when you beat them, so it may be best to cover your back.

As driving is such a small world I have had lessons with almost every judge going!

A judge "should do their best to avoid judging" anyone who you have trained on a regular basis (trained once a fortnight, and includes anything in the two weeks before comp.

If they do have to judge someone they have trained, they have to declare ti to organiser.

Judge also cant have a financial interest in the horse, as OP said.

Really! The judge I referred to was also the organiser! I guess she hadn't trained her in the previous fortnight

Bugger! I was looking forward to being judged by my relatively new trainer!

i agree with most of you but everyone has a cheeky side;)
theres a very small local show coming up that i plan to attend to get a good warm up before qualifying for the biggies later on, and one of our good friends are judging, so guess what, we are scramming as much horses there as we can haha! obviously she wouldnt pull up an extrenely bad horse and she knows her work, and we know ours but what the hell!! Ittlo be a laugh haha!!

The very small local show that'll 'be a laugh' to you will be a major event to the less experienced competitors. Friends of ours who have top level show horses never stay in the ring for final judging at local shows. They inform both judges & organisers that they are there to compete "HC" as a warm up. They wouldn't dream of taking a class at that level away from someone who is competing at local level. They are very nice about the way they do it - not at all patronising or condescending. They take on board that wins at these local levels mean as much to some people as wins at tghe highest levels do to them, & wouldn't dream of raining on anyones parade.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree, the 'getting as many in there for a laugh, as a warm-up for the biggies' makes uncomfortable reading to be honest!

Agree with last two-

If you need a warm up and a friend is judging, why not have the decency to compete H/C. instead of Pot Hunting

Very small local show organisers could restrict the classes to those with fewer than a set number of BD points, and if all the ribbons are taken by those using the competion as warm up, they would be well advised to so in future.

I would never purposely go to a comp because I knew the judge. I had entered this particular dressage before they even asked my boss to judge and I worked bl**dy hard to qualify for it. That is why I was glad she couldn't judge.

We weren't suggesting that you were doing that. It was the other poster who made it clear it was 'for a laugh as a warm for the biggies'

i was judged by my former trainer once at BE novice. i relaxed a bit, thinking he'd be nice. of course, he knew the horse could go better (especially with him on!) so he absolutely slated me and gave me an almost-justifiably terrible mark.
won't make that mistake again...

What society are the dressage champs with.

The British show pony society (for example) has a rule that "judges must not knowingly judge ponies that are or have been owned, produced, exhibited, bred or ridden by a
relative, a Godchild or by anyone with whom he is in a business partnership with,
employed by or employees or lives with." - so it's worth looking out for rules like this which could exepmt you should your employer be judging.

It's only a local riding club running it. And any other dressage I would do would only be unaffiated stuff at local equestrian centres.

think thats very bad sportsmanship and in the equestrian world we rely on that, seems to be lacking in your department what a shame for the other competitors!!

Helenhorse- You are the sort of person that gets others calling you a pothunter, HC is a better fairer warm up.
However if you do go enjoy your hollow victory!

I hardly ever post in CR but after reading someones post about 'having a laugh' well, it is not funny but bad sportsmanship and to be honest how can anyone go out and compete that way and feel good about their 'win'??

I'm not a serious competitor by any means, but i am 'competitive' and of i worked my hardest to get my horse ready for a show and had someone like you come along and pothunt, well, i would be very p!ssed off, as will many other people grrrr

sorry if that makes no sense i have had a long day

i didnt say i felt good about my win lmao, it was a very local show that no-one went to because it was badly advertised and so there for it was just fun, and everyone had a laugh. it included sj and novelty classes which obviosuly didnt need an excellent horse to participate. So there was no harm done and it was a one off. i know as well as you that if it had have been a good, popular local show i would have just entered a few, qualifying classes.
haha
xx

I've been judges by someone that I have slept with before. Actually, to be honest we didn't sleep that much...
