Being nosey Pammy Hutton kerfuffle

Certainly at lower levels (up to stage 3) you get a chat with the examiner after about how it went. It's a good chance to "rescue" something that you realise you perhaps didn't get right - if you acknowledge it and address it... (Again though, I can't speak beyond 3)
It read to me like the candidate did what I call direct traffic - ie shoulder in up the long side then travers then half pass across the short diagonal. I don't like teaching that way personally, I prefer to chuck some thinking responsibility at my riders and teach what I see (like crookedness maybe 🤣)
Giving directions is all well and good, riders come away thinking they've done loads but it doesn't develop much.

Also I think @I'm Dun said about not training where you do the exam, I think it's only for a number of weeks beforehand and may not be in force at that level as there are so few centres training or examining

Is that still the case? It was decades ago when I did my Stage 3, but I thought they’d stopped face to face feedback because there had been too many cases of aggressive disagreements with the examiners? (could be wrong, I’ve not been involved in the BHS for years, but I got told a few years ago by a current instructor).

When I did my Stage 3 several fellow students failed when the instructors at our Eq Centre were convinced they should have passed. But that’s the way it was, they weren’t the examiners and needed to respect that.

I haven’t read the Facebook page but I am quite shocked that a FBHS would actually share something like that and start a shaming campaign. Incredibly unprofessional!! Perhaps she should indeed give up her FBHS. Most of her social media is on the embarrassing side nowadays. Nothing good ever comes from getting into a public spat on Facebook.

For all her talk in H&H about the need to improve the image of equestrian sports, PH's unprofessional rantings do not do that, just makes it seem like various warring factions out to serve their own interests at all costs - with the horse and its welfare trampled underfoot in the metaphorical melee, without anything being changed for the better because everyone is so focused on being told they're right.

I follow her just for the (unnecessary - go through the proper channels before going off on one on social media if you want to instigate real change!) drama tbh.... though it does feel a bit 'you have to laugh about this else you'll cry' sometimes. I respected her, based on reputation, right up until finding her Facebook, lol.

I didn't know about HM beyond the saddles but omfg it is properly, properly nuts. I thought 'conspiracy theories' was hyperbole but it's not 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

100% I also avoid Heather Moffett, she is a whole other level of conspiracy theories level of unhinged, its very sad, I used to follow HM for the riding/training stuff, but its too much off the wall for me now.
Having been on the receiving end of Heathers lunacy before she went into tin hat territory it doesn’t surprise me she has gone this way. Which is sad as I remember reading her book as a teenager and being inspired.
I agree with her emphasis on rider biomechanics although I think there are better trainers out there.
The horse stuff is still very much put it in a Pelham and twiddle.

You have discussions and are assessed on your debrief there and then, results are then emailed within two weeks. They did stop results in person because of a few 'issues'.

@Honey08 yes and no, you don't get feedback on the day from the examiner. You get results via email within 15 working days. However they do speak about the practical with you - are you happy with the boots? Er no that one has slipped let me fix it or were you able to practise safe procedure at all times on the lunge? Well I struggled to keep my horse out as he's well wise to the game and fell in a few times...
Obviously if you nod and say yes you've no chance though

The feedback to me suggests the candidate wasn’t at the level but you’d have thought the examiner might have put something positive.

The interesting thing for me is the sheer amount of people talking about negative experiences doing the BHS exams. I hated doing mine. I failed my stage 2 jump twice - both times I thought I’d done a good round. When I finally passed I took the stage 3 exam a few months later and passed 1st time. I seriously thought I’d failed as I had a refusal in the showjumping and then had to boot a very unwilling cob around the XC.

I did my stage 4 care but knew I’d never pass the jumping. I’ve never used the qualifications but I didn’t really want to teach either and ultimately I think that’s the only thing they’re useful for.

I took mine in the early 2000s and remember training with a girl who was incredibly passionate about teaching and really disheartened as she kept failing the stage 2 jump so therefore couldn’t get her AI. She was gifted at teaching kids and realistically she just wanted the AI to work in RS.
She ended up leaving the industry in the end.

I recently attended one of her courses and was very concerned as we have vastly differing views on the world but she remained professional, but i agree her FB posts are mental and unfortunately rarely centre around horses

Very unprofessional of PH. Criticising your peers on Facebook is not the way to deal with these things,

She has only shown part of the candidate feedback so as to show the assessor in a bad light. I bet if she had posted the full report there would have been a balance of positive and negative comments.

Looked to me like she had badly prepared the candidate for the exam and then tried to blame it on the assessor when the candidate failed.

If she has offered to return her FBHS the BHS should accept it. She is a disgrace and embarrassment to the profession and all other Fellows.

Very unprofessional of PH, but that’s the sort of thing she does. If she has concerns, she should go through the proper channels.

For balance, I really enjoyed my BHS exams and PTT, and found them mostly a positive experience, with friendly examiners.

I enjoyed mine too! But a long time ago now.
