How long does it take before the RSPCA will do something regarding false accusations. Ive been reported at least 3 times now over the past 2 months over my mare. Always the same mare none of the other horses i have. Saying she is underweight, bad sweetitch not looked after. When in fact she is in foal putting on too much weight really in ideal world would want her skinner. This is the best year she has had and has been able to live out all year with her mane growing back.

Last tue night someone let her out of her stable as she was in as was lame, they left the main gate open and all the chains etc were removed. She was found on the road - now been reported for this as well its driving me mad esp. as there are horses who really need help.

Not the best picture but this is the mare in question -

If it happens again, might be worth speaking to the Inspector about what can be done, as if it's always the same person reporting you and it's always groundless, it would be verging on harassment I would think and you might want to speak to the police about it.

I would look at getting some boltcutter-proof chains for gates, don't forget to do the hinges side as well so no one can lift the gate off.

ditto - someone has got it in for you - mindless idiots probably.

Move - i wouldnt bother with defences and cctv - just up sticks and move - but dont tell ANYONE. xx

Agree with Cremedemonthe, if this person thinks this pony is an RSPCA case then I hope they dont have to see some of the horses that are taken away!

Have you fallen out with anyone recently?

Someone's got it in for you by the sounds of it.
Lock the chains with padlocks to make sure they can't be left undone, put up CCTV signs and a dummy camera, may deter them.

I agree with this.

What have the RSPCA said about it so far? Obviously the mare doesn't look in bad condition

I'd go one further and get CCTV, it's not that expensive, you may be able to find out who the culprit is and bring legal action against them

The RSPCA have asked me direct have i fallen out with anyone, which i havent other than a court case thats it but its very unrelated the the horses in its nature, the PCSO who caught mare last tue said same thing. Didnt know really what to do, the RSPCA say the horses are all great condition even my 24 year old all healthy ideal weights bar this one who is a little overweight for only 50 something days infoal.

Doesn't matter if the court case was horse related or not, people can be very spiteful when they feel hard done by and can try to target what you love most. Not trying to scare monger you but please contact the police in the first instance and DO either consider real cameras as queenbee has said or move, soon!

If you consider that you are being harrassed then notify the Police. They can contact the RSPCA & wil be able to access the information & details of the informant if given to the RSPCA. Then, hopefully, a visit from them & it should all stop. ;)

AH! this is it then - It doesnt matter if the court case is related to the horses or not, they belong to you - they want to hurt, frighten you - in their small minds they believe that they can get to you through your horses. And I hate to say it but they are succeeding.

If you dont want the horses hurt you need to MOVE IMMEDIATELY and dont tell anyone where you are going xx

When you report someone to the RSPCA you dont have to leave a name or number, you can report anonymously so may not be able to trace who is doing this.

If you have had a falling out, horse related or not then this could be the cause, people like that have no conscience and will do what they like if they feel youve done something to them, it doesnt matter that your horses are involved.

If I were you id def be reporting to the police so they have records of whats been going on, and id be moving my horses pronto I think!

Good luck!!

Padlock everything with boltcutter proof chains.
Security lights, some inexpensive CCTV and signs.
That is what I would be doing, aswell as a sign on the main gate saying that you have guard dogs.
Also get in touch with the police, and get them to liase with the RSPCA to find out who is reporting the horses. It wouldn't suprise me if it was the same person reporting your horse several times
I hope it doesn't happen again! Some people are just idiots.
If you do not feel you can take these precautions, move your horses! I would be so paranoid it would happen again..

I had something similar a few years ago but I had a group of people phoning the RSPCA AND trading standards out on me. Even though the RSPCA were satsfied with the way my horses were kept, the lady from trading standards was on my case 24/7, finding menial problems (too many weeds, shelter too flimsy (it wasn't)) until I moved my horses over the county border and out of the area she had any say in. At the time I was mortified but later learned that it was all engineered by a woman wanted my horses. She was friends with the lady that worked in trading standards.

I guess I should have tried to do something about it but when it comes to court cases against the authorities I feel that the odds are stacked in their favour, and I had no concrete evidence to prove the friendship between the two women. It was extremely stressful.

Since I move my horses I haven't been reported once.

So my advice is to move. But at least the RSPCA have recognised that the calls are malicious.

I have moved her back into the field by the houses so always someone around now, and no one has ever once said anything about my other 3 mares so it does feel personal as this mare i have had for years.

Just glad no one has said a negative comment on her as it really gets to you after a while thinking am i missing something?

some people just want a blooming kick up the bum, i once was reported in winter for 'horses had no food and looked hungry'.. anyway rspca came out, she is like ''and the problem is what??..' looking at the half eating round hay bale in the field and commenting how well they are doing

never heard a thing since, but i bet the reporter dont get done for wasting time, or making wrong reports.

i once heard that someone was reported for having a very underweight lab - turned out to be .... a grey hound!!!!! bloody stupid people!!!!!.

I would move my horses incase this gets more serious. I dont want to scare you but it sounds like soemone has it in for you and you dont know where they will stop. I would bring harrasment charges if you can work out who it is reporting you.

This happened to me too: I took in two old horses as a favour for a friend. There was nothing wrong with them, they were just old, and looked it. The vet was here at least twice a week and the owner was in constant consultation with him about the horses and how they were, so it wasn't like they were neglected.

Then we had an RSPCA van parked outside the farm gates; why FFS do they have to always park outside so that all the blimmin neighbours have an eyeful, but they do. They said they'd had a complaint that there was two horses here "neglected". I said OK then go and see how "neglected" they are, and they were in the stable all tucked up with their rugs on, like ..... really neglected!!!

We knew, or at least had a good idea of who it was; it was a local farmer who'd basically fallen out with my uncle many years before about something piffling. We live at the same farm, so this guy was passing in the road outside and thought to stir up the *****e for us as a family.

Charming, some people.

But personally I'd move your mare; yes it will be disruptive, and why should you, BUT I'd find a little yard somewhere out of the public eye if you can, for now, and move her PDQ.

Sodding RSPCA! Sorry if that offends some here, but they're as much use as a nun in a punch up when they COULD do some good; yet hassle the people that treat their animals OK, to death. Its a pity they choose not to use a bit of common sense IMO and instead go on tittle tattle and thus contribute to hate campaigns.

I would think all your horses are in danger until you get to the bottom of this issue. If you can, move them to a safer place until you can get to the bottom of it with police help. It sounds like to much of a coincidence that youve been involved in a court case when this is happening to you.
Anyone who'd let a mare in foal onto a main road is bloody evil, id be super vigilant and get the police involved asap.

someone reported our yard cats, he said he wished some house cats were in such good condition. unfortunatly the evil minx that reported them knew better than him and stole them!!
There are some really evil people about.
