...to tell you!!
Well as you know my big grey in my signature had a bit of a mare with his SJ in the PC open at Burghley.
We had his back checked, and he was tight through his hamstrings, but other than that J couldn't find anything wrong.
So we entered him for the PN at Solihull as he's been there before, and was very happy and confident there last time. Went down the day before as had C in the intro. Where we stabled was absolutely lovely - the lady was very hospitable and the facilities were second to none. Once I came back from SRC with C, tacked T up and did some flatwork in the arena. I was really struggling as he was leaning like a bl***y tank, and I'd damaged my shoulder the week before. Gave up after 15minutes of very hit and miss flatwork.
Arrived at Solihull a bit later than we'd wanted the next morning, just had enough time to pump Tally full of his new supplement
Since all of your recommendations we've tried SupercalmInstants, and the difference is fantastic. Anyway, dashed off to the warm-up with half an hour to go
Normally he gets an hour [yes, it is necessary, he is a giraffe
] So he warmed up, and he went like a dream. He was a little leany, but I could always pick him up. Mum went to say he was going nicely, but a very cold look stopped her - I did not want to tempt fate!
The lady before us had an absolute mare, and I know it's awful but I thought it was a good test to follow.
Went in to do his test, and all the way around I kept thinking "Oh my god, this isn't my horse!" Did his halt, and I didn't wait to leave the arena. Big pats, big smiles. He did the best test of his life! Once I did leave the arena, I collapsed around his neck. I didn't care what the judge gave us, in my opinion, my horse just out performed everyone. Mum was quite nearly in tears.
Eventually scores went up [as we had ages, almost 2 hrs, between DR and SJ]. Mum asked me if I thought I'd done better than the lady before me. My simple reply was "It felt better, but it's the judges preference." Well, she'd got 46, which left me slightly hopeful. Mum broke into sobs and managed to splutter out that we'd got a 41.5 - the best test T's ever done. To give you and idea his last event he got 53!!
He warmed up for his SJ okay. Wasn't jumping particularly well, but didn't hit anything. Went into the ring, and he wasn't really concentrating, and we got a stop at fence 2. I was not impressed. Carried on, and got another stop. Apparently I did nothing wrong, he just didn't look happy. Eventually came out with 20 jumping [4 for 1st stop, 8 for 2nd, and two poles] and 27 time. Decided to WD before XC as it was unecessary wear on his legs - it had got a little sticky.
Seems he's really lost his confidence with his SJ - he doesn't say no, and last time he did there was something wrong [he didn't have front studs - we were uneducated and naive at this point]. Dropped him down from Nov to PN for Winkburn, and am taking him to Laughton for a schooling sesh tomorrow.
But yes, it was a bit of a downer on the test, but I just want to get my boy back
