I bought my horse in 2012 and he is down as a belgian warmblood on his UK passport but has no recorded breeding. He does have the BW stamp on his left rear thigh. He was supposedly bred in 2001 and his UK passport has an issue date of 2008. So I assume his actual passport with all his breeding info on was 'lost' some when in 2008.

I just wondered if anyone knew how I could find out who his parents are. Or find out who he is as he has no name on his passport either (just his stable name). Is there anywhere I can send off a DNA test or will contacting the studbook help?

Any suggestions or past experiences would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!

I don't register mine BWP so I don't know if they also brand a number underneath the BWP brand? If so, can you decipher the number? Other than that there's nothing else really you can do. You won't be able to DNA test him without knowledge of his sire and dam.

Have you had him scanned for a microchip? You could also contact the studbook and they maybe able to help. They may have a forum where you could post a pic and see if his breeder could be traced.

i'm dutch but I work in Belgium and know many horsey people there. Also, 95% of BE and NL people are on a dutch horsey forum called bokt.nl

If you want I could post it on there for you, maybe his stable name is his real name ? do you have more info like age, chipnr, and a photo ?

He has to have a chip if he's imported

Hi leggs,

I have sent you a pm. I have an album on my profile called hugo that has a few photos of him side on and head shots that should be useable. I don't know how to send photos on H&H forum so if anyone could let me know that would be very much appreciated! Thanks

I am afraid you have no chance as possibly 50% of all BWBs will look like that. His chip will be the only hope you have if he has no chip he will not be a registered BWB im afraid . At the end of the day you could put whatever you like on a british passport issued in 2008 with no means of verifying it.
I know from experience that BWB are very helpful but only if you have an identity for a horse without their passport however from then on there are lots of hoops to jump through before they will even consider doing DNA. I was lucky I had a passport without the breeding page but had name and registration details They confirmed to me that the mare in question fitted the passport but said they did not need to DNA or reissue passport which saved me £600

Hi, I know this is s long shot...I have a horse of Belgian origin imported sometime between nov '11 and nov '12 to the uk from londezzeel? Her chip no is 981100000698832 just wondering if you could find out anything of her history?
Many thanks
