I bought my horse in 2012 and he is down as a belgian warmblood on his UK passport but has no recorded breeding. He does have the BW stamp on his left rear thigh. He was supposedly bred in 2001 and his UK passport has an issue date of 2008. So I assume his actual passport with all his breeding info on was 'lost' some when in 2008.

I just wondered if anyone knew how I could find out who his parents are. Or find out who he is as he has no name on his passport either (just his stable name). Is there anywhere I can send off a DNA test or will contacting the studbook help?

Any suggestions or past experiences would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance! :D

In 2001 he would most likely have just had a pedigree paper if his breeding was known so that could well have been lost when the passport was applied for since its quite possible that (like many others) his owners in 2004 did not bother getting a passport issued until perhaps he was sold. unless there is a brand number to help narrow down the breeding its only possible to do a dna test to prove known breeding and not to find what it is so sadly unless you can trace back the owners its unlikely that anyone will be able to help

I think it's going to be terribly difficult to find out anything, as the Belgian brand doesn't include a number. Without any real clues, I think you're going to struggle, I'm afraid.

I only managed to find out my boys history because he's Danish, and the brand includes a unique number.

Ok nto to worry thanks for the help though! :) I know was bought from an irish dealer in 2007/08 but thats as far back as I can find out as I don't think the dealer will remember one horse form many years ago. thanks anyway!
