Vet detected a "significant " heart murmur when she went for her 2nd vaccination. Today we saw cardiologist and she has SAS. Basically her aorta is constricted so her heArt has to work harder to pump the blood out. At the moment she is fine but as she gets older and her heart has to work harder....well we have to wait and see. She will start on Beta blockers to help but her life expectancy is in the lap of the Gods. We are devastated but determined she will live as full and normal life as we can give her. With luck and loads of love from us he will have a fair few years yet.

So sorry to hear this:( Hope she still has a good few years yet.
Does the breeder know? As matings that have produced puppies with SAS should not be repeated.

Bella is the Rottie. She was one of the second litter so there will be no more for that dog and bitch. She is the only one of the 2 litters affected so she is just unlucky, bless her. The breeder has been notified and is as devastated as we are. However, she is fine right now and she will live a full, normal and happy life for as long as we can give it to her. She was a complete star at the surgery and stole the hearts of all the staff and the rather good looking vet! She will go onto Beta blockers and hopefully be with us for a fair few years yet. I refuse to let her go easily, I love her too much already!

Just to give you hope, one of mine has a heart murmur and at 12, is still running round like a pup! He is kept lean and fed a good diet, not too many treats. The only thing slowing him down is old age.

I hope her condition can be managed and she's a happy girl.

Matty,I'm really sorry to read your update...I hope the pup has a good life and it is a low grade heart murmur which can sometime auto correct by the time it reaches adulthood...we had a dog like this who was declared to have a murmur but then it was undetectable by a year old. fingers crossed for you.I hope the breeder has offered her support and perhaps some contribution towards the testing.

A friends jrt had this type of prognosis at 2nd vacs and she is three years later running round like a loon and the murmur has gone.

Fingers crossed for you
