Who's going?

Me and OH are taking the kiddies for the day tomorrow, I get to watch amazing ponies and shop while the kids get to play. Everybody wins.

We're there tomorrow and Saturday - horses doing Intermediate and CIC2*. Lovely event, but will be interested to see if the new entry system for owners works....scanning of the BE membership card!!

*Assuming the ground holds out* we'll be going (spectating) on Saturday this year for the first time. Does anyone have any tips for getting there by car? The other local event we do annually is Burghley but always on the train, and I know Belton is obviously a smaller scale but would like to avoid traffic issues if possible. Is it best to arrive particularly early? Thanks in advance :)

I too am very local (particularly to Burghley!). Be aware that you cannot enter Belton through the normal gates, it’s a separate entrance (NG31 9SQ) for the horse trials. Would advise avoiding the middle of Grantham but bar that it’s hard to avoid all the traffic as it runs through houses to this entrance. I have never found it particularly bad but then again not sure I have entered during peak times. When leaving sometimes there is a que but nothing compared to Burghley traffic!

Word of warning: two years ago there was much less rain and the car park was horrendous by the Sunday, if you have the option of a 4x4 take it just in case!

Lovely event with lots of shops, lots of different arenas (gate jumping is very fun to watch and mounted games). Great view of the cross country course although a little walk away for some of it I.e water complex. Beautiful grounds too...

I’m not meant to be going but half talked myself into it now :p

You know it makes sense :D Thanks very much for the info! Really looking forward to it now (with one eye still on the weather...)

Lévrier - hope your YO has a good weekend! :)
