Got to be one of my favourite events ever! Especially on a lovely sunny day like today. It just makes everything so civilised
grin.gif

Although I had a lie in (4.30am
tongue.gif
) sadly I didn't manage much sleep as I didn't get back from work until 12.30am so my driving-whilst-pouring-hot-coffee-into-a-mug-held-between-my-knees skills have improved immeasureably this week!

Carthorse did one of his nicer tests, spoilt mostly by far too much neck bend in the first half 10m circle. Scored 40.5 and was extremely disappointed. No comment on my test sheet
mad.gif
so I'm not fully enlightened as to where we went wrong
confused.gif
. In my defence it was a hard scoring section - Brook Staples had the only sub-30 score and the rest were scattered between 35 and 45.

Baydale turned up to 'motivate' us (at least that's what she called it
smile.gif
) before the SJ. Didn't touch a pole in the warm up, went into the rather spooky ring (lots of flowers, extra jumps and flapping marquees) and Carthorse thought that the first fence was trying to eat him. He put his head between his knees going over so that he could keep an eye on it
smirk.gif
and inevitably had it down. He wasn't entirely willing to trust any of the fences not to attack him so he had the second part of the double too....
mad.gif
. The pictures look lovely - knees tucked right up, ears forwards etc.
confused.gif
. I have a plan involving even more parts of sheep decorating his bridle so that he can't look down!

XC at Belton is what it's all about really. The course was slightly more technical than last year and still pretty darn huge. The second last fence, a carrot table thingy, remains the biggest Novice fence I have ever jumped
shocked.gif
.

He was fab over 1 and 2, got a bit close to 3, screwed slightly and I lost my stirrup, jumped the related distance to the next with one stirrup, retrieved its friend and continued to 5 - two skinny houses on an angle and off a turn (the intermediate equivalent was SOOOO much nicer
mad.gif
). Popped through this fine. Big telegraph oxer - fine, double of wavy narrow branches - fine. Through the water like a pro then to the coffin. They'd changed this this year and we had a very upright narrow brush then we jumped the ditch part of the Adv/3* coffin on a 45 degree angle. Not one for the babies! Carthorse sailed through this
grin.gif
. Big trakhener, poley oxer, double of narrow sheep feeders on an angle, double of arrowheads (are you spotting a theme yet?
tongue.gif
). The sunken road is deep and very narrow - barely room for a stride in the bottom
crazy.gif
and full of water
confused.gif
I don't think it has rained for about 3 weeks!. Anyway this was fine, double of angled upright brushes was fine, skinny pig and pig arc was also fine, took a pull rather than a flier at the ENORMOUS second last fence and home over the last
grin.gif
grin.gif
grin.gif

Steering between fences still rather suspect - absolutely fine in combinations/angled fences etc., just hampered by wide open spaces
frown.gif
.

Was amazed to find that we were inside the time
cool.gif
. Only a couple were! Was good enough for 13th or so (again
mad.gif
) but boy, those were expensive show-jumps! I didn't count exactly but 10th place was 2 pens ahead of me so one down would have left me well placed and a clear would have been a top 4ish finish
mad.gif
.

Oh well, that's the whole fun of the game I suppose
smirk.gif
. Am back at work now so you guys are welcome to a Pimm's. I believe Baydale has some to spare
tongue.gif

Thanks to Baydale for the 'motivation' and Kerilli for the videoing (of which more, possibly, later
cool.gif
).

Hey great report
smile.gif
well done.
Blimey, how many early mornings have you had this week? do you have shares in Kenco?
Shame about those damn sjs... I think they should all be nailed into the ground
wink.gif

Enjoy work... I would be in bed now lol

well done sounds like a even beefier belton this year so clear inside the times great!!!

i think carthorse has finished knocking showjumps down from now on its out of his system so only double clears from now on!
laugh.gif

i do hate it when judges dont give feedback surely a rule should be if your not sub 20 (if i ever got that mark i might retire
tongue.gif
) then your not doing everything right so abit of instruction would be nice plus for the price you pay to enter the least they could do is scribble a few lines

I'm guessing you're a bit frustrated but I think that's a great result - much more positive than recent times? All definitely going in the right direction. Well done.
grin.gif

Btw - I've been 'Baydale'd' tonight as well - I think she's back on even scarier form now she's allowed to ride again (clearly making up for lost time!) and is positively bouncing around the arena!
crazy.gif

what a great result - you should be incredibly pleased!!

its a beefy track as 'langside' said so you have done really well
smile.gif

Well done. I had a lovely day there helping a friend. I think she may have been in your section as i know it had Brook, Matthew Wright & Dag Albert in it
crazy.gif

She has her best novice dressage at 38.6, like you 2 down SJ & was going a storm round the XC, until fence 15 when her mare said no thanks mum!
It was a cracking course though, so clear inside the time, you should be really proud. I think it is one of the best courses on the circuit & a clear there is something to be really proud of.
Well done

Nah, sleeping's for wimps
tongue.gif

Off to find some spooky BSJA before Chatsworth. Doubly relieved we went clear as it was very important for reasons that are secret at the moment *taps side of nose* but I'll let you all into in a few weeks if all goes well. Don't want to jinx it!
wink.gif

Just gutted that I hadn't entered the Int as planned, but Carthorse was being so naughty when I did my entries that I didn't dare
frown.gif

Well done Gb, shame about the SJ but still a good result
grin.gif

Mines a vodka and agree sleep is for wimps, down fall for me doing shift work.
Good luck at your next event, where to?
grin.gif

loving the pouring the coffee whilst driving idea - do that all the time with tea
wink.gif

Still, that XC sounded nasty! Well done for being under the time, and glad to hear steering is bet

Thanks Saf. Chatsworth IN and Floors IN. Carthorse's sort of events - big and galloping
smile.gif
. Think a BSJA outing may be in order too
frown.gif

just uploading vid now, will stick it up on here asap.
my mate, on a horse that did 3 CIC**s last year, also had 2 showjumps down.
frown.gif

btw, which waiting to vid her on the xc i saw someone very experienced get eliminated at the sunked road, it was causing quite a few probs!
here it is, apols for rubbish videoing but it was really windy and blowing my camera around! hope this works...
drats, hold on, wrong vid.

Don't get me wrong, the XC isn't at all nasty - it's big and bold and more old-fashioned than a lot and the sort of course I love. Made Kelsall Hill look like a PN.

Not sure whether the steering really is better. Baydale and Kerilli said he looked really good, and I thought he looked fine on the video but I still had a lot of pulling to do! It's just nicer do do a course where you're not constantly turning.

gah, can't get it to upload more than the first 4 seconds. will keep trying.
he did look really good, honestly.
really really sorry, for some reason only the first 4 secs have copied off my camera... and i deleted it off the camera once i'd copied it across. typical, this has never happened before...

Gamebird - do you ever sleep??!! I thought I didn't get much sleep but I seem so lazy compared to you.

Anyway very well done today. I'm glad Carthorse is still on good form. I think you definitely need to get some Intermediate entries in soon
smile.gif

Thanks for trying K, at least I got a wee look earlier. No one ever comes with me to video so it was nice to have a peek.

fantastic,
xc sounds fabby! just what i would like!
and damn the sj,,i hate it!!!!
well done!

btw,,i think we aee one after each other at chatsworth (if laura is correct that is :P )

Sounds like you have definitely got the bounce on mr carthorse now (maybe all the bits of sheep and nosebands), so glad you are the 'alpha' in the relationship again.

Well done
laugh.gif

Fiona

You and Carthorse were looking good today. Like I said, you know he can do all three bits well but it's just persuading him to do all that on the same day.
tongue.gif

Just say if my "motivating" is all too much btw, or if you want to return the favour, feel free. I reckon it's not what you say but how you say it, either in tone or volume; it worked on meardsall_millie today anyway.
wink.gif

Well done Gamebird!!
grin.gif
grin.gif
Sounds like it was worth the trip just for the XC
grin.gif
Annoying about the dressage and SJing but still a pretty damn good day out
grin.gif
cool.gif

Good report and well done!!! Glad the XC was good, my brother built it so havent seen it but have heard all about it all!!! See you at Chatsworth maybe!

Well done on a great-sounding XC round
smile.gif
And as far as the others are concerned, at least you had the unappreciative Dr judge and the two rails on the same day - even more frustrating if you have the rails on the one day your judge has recognised just what an outstanding test your horse has done
