Basically after various sessions with tor, belv, chris and liz etc and bute trials and physio and a day of multiple x rays and various things we have been told that he is a lovely horse and has nothing physically wrong with him. They thought there was some bony growth/lump/thing he has always had in his back area. But not a thing. no arthritic issues anywhere either apparently.

so yeh, good he is healthy and not in pain but doesn’t really help much. so think we will send him to tors, and she can take him right back to basics and re-train him whilst I’m at school etc. then after 4 weeks or so put me back on board and teach us together. tor will also be able to keep an eye on how belv is moving and going to see changes in him etc and check he isn’t in pain when she starts to ask more of him once his basics are re-established.

but TBH, all a bit confusing and annoying and more than anything - upsetting. because it basically means that I did this to him...I made him so worried about dressage that he felt he physically couldn’t do it. urgh urgh urgh urgh urgh.

anyway just made a post to let some people know. PLEASE don't go on about 2nd opinions or anything. Really not in the mood, thanks. Plus I suggested that to mum, she was not amused to say the least. so... we shall just see how it goes with tor. We know tor will say if she feels she isn’t getting anywhere and that there is something in him that has been missed.

Well, that is good news really to look on the bright side. And don't beat yourself up over it, sure it wasn't your fault at all, sometimes these things just can't be explained.

Have a hug, keep us posted on how Tor is getting on with him.

Really hope he gets better with going to tors, and hope you can make him happy again... and pleasee dont blame yourself!! Lets hope he comes back better than ever xxxx

oh hun...don't beat yourself up...on the positive your pony is fine and will be back out competing soon!

i'm sure his break with Tor will do the trick and you'll be back on track soon

Dont beat yourself up! If my riding doesn't/can't put a horse that doesn't like DR in the first place off it, I'm sure you didn't 'damage' Belv.

It is very probably that originally when all the trouble started he had some niggling injury/pain (possible muscular) that started the bad behavoir/issues, and he has continued to avoid working due remebered pain or becasue he associated you with pain. The reason no one found anything is that at some point along the way during the rest or whatever you have been doing he has mended.

Hopefully a few weeks doing the basics, with a different rider will let him get through his mental block and you will have your old horse back and raring to go!

And look on the brightside 'nothing wrong' is a lot nicer finding than 'terminally ill' =)

i know you don't think so, but this is REALLY REALLY GREAT NEWS! it means you'll have him to event this year! trust me, trying to put a physical problem right would be a lot worse.
Tor will work wonders with him, and hopefully you will feel a huge difference and be able to carry on along those lines.
PLEASE though, do not take him back to the trainers (whoever they were -i have no idea and am not casting aspersions) that get you to ride him in gadgets. i'm sorry but this just shows the damage they can do - they are inescapable, he tried hard but because his body couldn't conform correctly he ended up finding a way to move in them... it was only when you took them off that you got the true picture - he wasn't saying "i shan't go round" he was saying "i CAN'T go round (at the moment)".
gadgets do not teach you feel, and that's what you need to develop to be able to help him, as his natural balance is not perfect etc.
*hugs* it is REALLY REALLY good news and has honestly made my day. he's a lovely lovely horse (he's just about top of the list of HHO horses that i wish i could nick!) and now you can go and have fun on him again.
don't beat yourself up, imho you were badly advised in the past, it's happened to us all. you haven't wrecked your horse.

TBH I'm with Kerilli on this one - it really is great news and means all your plans for the year can start again

As far as why he's been confused/uncomfortable/whatever is concerned, don't worry too much about it. You are, what? 16? You cannot be expected to know everything, all you can do is try your best and work hard (which you have), and follow the advice you are given by people you trust. Seems like some of that hasn't perhaps been as good as it could have been. But you have learned/are learning a lot from this and it sounds as though you are now in good hands and will be helped through it. I would view the whole thing as positive: you will be in a far better position to build on last year's performance which, after all, was hardly disastrous, than you would have been if this hadn't happened

The very best of luck - keep on keeping us posted, I can't wait for the updates

Going with K and TD on this one. You're young, you'll learn, and now you have an opportunity to do just that. What's more, as long as you stay in horses you'll ALWAYS be learning. The problem with improving is, by definition, you have to make mistakes and you have to accept you haven't done things exactly as you would have wished in the past.

I joke every horse I can help now, I'm doing penance for all the ones I helped ruin in the past.

Onward. The horse isn't permanently broken, you're lucky enough to have access to people who can help you fix the situation, and you'll be a much better rider for it, capable of not making the mistake again and of helping other horses in the future. Score.

So So pleased for you that there is nothing phyically wrong, trust me if you were in my position (with 8 more months of restricted turnout and an strict regime to follow) you would agree. I know it must be hard to accept that there is no quick fix but at least you are taking sensible measures to get it sorted and you'll both be much improved this season for it!

Be grateful your horse is physically ok and you'll be able to ride and compete him and that he isn't in pain, many of us aren't as lucky as you. I hope you manage to sort out the issues you've been having and go onto have a very successful partnership.
