I haven't followed the story , but my husband says he may be older than Ben Maher , but is better looking , so where can he get himself a lingerie model ?

[/ QUOTE ]

he may have to win some major classes first like the Derby !!

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, he's had 2 riding lessons & sat on my now retired horse , but sulked because he couldn't gallop or jump , so gave up - the fool

It seems starnge that bens web site has all pictures of himself & his girlfriend, and a whole page dedicated to his new groom who says how great they both are to work for. Not much horse content at all.

Feel a bit scruffy now, does everybody else on this forum wear high heels and a low cut dress to the yard and full makeup ? Think i need to make more of an effort for my horses.

I used to date a showjumper..he was so far up his own arse it was unbelivable..he was totally spoilt by his mother..and any woman that came to the yard he would go out with and S**g then dump..he was ugly to but women seemed to lust after him.

I thought Tim ended up the best placed Briton in the Individual not Ben as per Mail article - my memory is probably rubbish though

Tim was highest placed Brit...placed 16th I believe. Ben was 20th. Not entirely sure he would YET be considered a favourite for 2012...especially as he no longer has the horse

The whole article is littered with technical inaccuracies actually. Ben is NOT ranked number 3 in the BSJA rankings either...

Only once, as I was running late for a dinner party.. Never again.. My host politely removed the hay from my hair, gave me a tissue to wipe the mud off my face and lent me a jumper to disguise the sugar beet on my dress that the nag bequeathed me as a leaving present.. Oh and said nag also trod on my foot and I hobbled around for weeks. Glamour, glamour, glamour..

Lets face it, the press are rubbish at Equestrian stories, take all the hoo-ha about "Katie Price and her Dressage competition and wanting to go to the 2012 olympics, didn't she do well at Hickstead" - totally failing to mention that in football terms the class she did was Sunday League!!!

Deary me... you have to laugh...!

Now just think of all the stories we believe without question just because we don't know anything else about the situation?

I always think that when I read horse related stories - I KNOW they're not accurate. what about all the arguably more important stories I don't know enough about to judge either way?

Well, well, anyone reading this would see just how bitchy the sport of showjumping really is!!! Pages of derogatory comments about Ben and Kathleen and yet no one has mentioned the other party - an angel? Open for debate!!!! As for grooms having flings, affairs, marriages and (yes!) divorces from their other halves, albeit male or female, that, you sad lot is a fact of life. Where in the Book of Life does it say anywhere that if you are a groom you cannot sleep with the man or woman you work for? No different to any other relationship as far as I can see. There are plenty of 'bosses' out there who have marrried their secretaries and just remember grooms come from all walks of life. Don't look down your nose at any of them - they work hard, long hours and not all are appreciated as they should be. Ben may have made a mistake but no doubt there are plenty of you reading this forum who have been in a relationship that has not worked - for what ever reason and to those of you who posted personal comments regarding either Ben and Kathleens looks - take a long hard look in the mirror - beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it is also only skin deep. I too was in the stand at Hickstead following the night at the Castle public house and I was appalled to hear the language that came NOT from Ben and Kathleen, who did not retaliate but the other party. Bearing in mind there were members of the public sitting all around, children as well, all I can say is it was foul to say the least and before you all jump on the band wagon NO, I am not a close friend of Ben and Kathleen, nor a member of their family (immediate or otherwise) just someone who has an opinion!

i think you will find it was both sides actually !!

why come over and sit behind people if you are not trying to cause a problem when there were plenty of other seats !

I thought the article in the Mail on Sunday was a truly lovely, accurate piece of writing. I'm sure all the professional grooms out there who are entrusted with the care of highly expensive talented horses are thrilled to be labelled as talentless slappers who are 'invariably the bottom of the equestrian food chain'.

I read this thread with dissapointment

how horrible a few of your comments are, and all on gossip and hearsay!

I hope you never find yourselves on the other side of the fence, the legal system and court is frightning and traumatic and has unfairly hung over poor ben and katherine for a long time.

They have been found not guilty and acquited, and I hope they never read some of the comments made here.

And remember hell hath no fury than a woman scorned

[/ QUOTE ]

That is twisting the DM's words. Nowhere in the article does it call grooms 'talentless slappers'. I can count 11 grooms off the top of my head that have slept with the rider they groom for and some have even married and had children with 'their rider'. I can also count as many that only went into the grooming side of things in eventing due to lack of funds (not lack of skills).

well said Raffa and llaanerch, one of Ben's close connections, the one who opened this thread, posted a comment about me recently that was just as disgusting and also complete hearsay, spread as it happens by a man, so i though i think Ben is a really good jockey and i am very sorry he lost Rolette, there has been some nastinest on both sides. this case will have been just as hard on the other person, who has now been 'named and shamed and identified' and consequently will not have a career anymore, when in fact the case was not found 'not guilty and aquitted' but dropped through lack of evidence. under the circumstances, i hardly think any other groom who might have been present would have dared get involved as a witness would they. and why on earth did katherine (or her advisors) release that picture in her lingerie? they must have realised the response it would get particularly in that article when you relate it to the comments re grooms. Perhaps to possibly to promote her modelling career? surely they were not thinking of that in the midst of such a serious and traumatic experience.

I believe the article said 'In truth, female grooms are the bottom of the equestrian food chain. Invariably, they lack the skills or funds to become riders, and the only route for social advancement is to sleep with a rider, but this rarely leads to marriage'. If you feel I have mis-interpreted this or quoted it incorrectly I apologise. I don't deny that grooms form relationahips with their riders - something that happens in any work place where you spend the main part of your life there. I worked as a groom for an awfully long time so I do have some knowledge of what goes on. I object to the phrasing of the article as it uses the words 'in truth ' and 'invariably', for me this indicates that this is the norm. In my opionion the really top grooms regard their job as a skill in its own right and they had few aspirations to ride/compete, and they are the top of their profession by hard work and effort -and not because they had to sleep with someone to get there.

calm down ladies! i think you are both on the same side actually! severnmiles, raffa was being a little ironic there and raffa severnmiles didnt realise it i think!
you are both right. and the reason i groom is that i smashed my right leg to bits and couldnt ride for years while they rebuilt it and though it is pretty ok i dont have the fine control i need for high level dressage which i was doing at the time, and i completely resent the way those comments were phrased in the article. Shows that they probaby havet had much to do with high class grooms. I have never slept with anyone i have worked for though my life might have been different if i had.

'Love triangles in showjumping are as common as the glasses of Pimm’s sipped beneath parasols by a curious mix of the socially aspiring nouveau riche and the country set who inhabit this glamorous world. It is a close-knit, almost incestuous community, smouldering with vanity, betrayal and obsession. The author Jilly Cooper famously exposed the behind-the-scenes skulduggery and bed-hopping in her novel Riders'

Sp either I go too all the wrong comps or walk around with my eyes closed. Probably both

Timefaulter - That quote makes me want to really get into Show Jumping in a big way ! Maybe like you im going to the wrong comps as this doesnt happen at Merrist Wood !

I really dont think they have done themselves any favours by agreeing to talk to the daily mail, I work for a celebrity couple and they would never ever talk to the mail, I dont know who manages Ben and Fluff Fluff - sorry Kathleen but they really should look to change management - or get Claire (Katie Prices Manager !)- as this is obviously the route that Kathleen wants to take !

I aree with that.

With the daily mail, if you know about a story and read what they have actually printed, you will realise that they have totaly slanted the story omiting important infomation and cutting words of sentances, so the story now reads completely different!

You woulld be crazy to talk to them volunterily!

They would have been paid to do the story so they need to live with the consequences of their comments I hope their grooms all hand their notice in

Hmm yes, whats the saying.. you make your bed... you lie in it!! LOL!!

But remember... there are always 2 sides to every story....
I am sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle!!

We've seen both sides and they will both have been slightly one sided. But I think they all need to put it behind them and get in with their lives!!

[/ QUOTE ]

There are always 3 sides to every story..... "yours", "mine", and "the truth". Personally, can't see the attraction in either of them!!

grooms are low down the food chain.

whereas models who spread their legs in their slightly saggy red nylon undies are the absolute cherry on the top of the ethical trifle, I suppose.

I'm sure she loves him for his looks alone.
