Ben Maher was the best of the brits in the super league nations cup, Rotterdam. He had a time fault in first round and four in second and as always Rolette looked as though she was in a class of her own.
We ended up fourth over all. We could have been second however Peppermill uncharacteristcly had eight and a time fault in the second round.
Ellen Whitaker unfortunatley had a terrible time, a stop four down and time faults in first round. She pulled out of the second round as Lacarno is in fact still lame.
It's looking more and more likely that it will be John, Michael, Tim Stockdale and Ben for the Olympics!!

ahh I wondered if there was something up with Locarno - very odd for someone to pull out of a team competition like that unless theres injury. Is it this foot/bruised sole problem again that he had the beginning of the year?

Really pleased for Ben, I know not everyone on here is a fan but I've only ever seen good things from him. I really like Rolette, she's just oozes class - I really hope Ben gets a spot, I think he's more than proved he's capable

I'm not tatolly sure of the problem with Lacarno, but it's rumoured to be his foot again. I feel really sorry for Ellen as I know the olympics was very much her ambition.
As for Ben I think he has now proved a lot of his critics what a true horseman he really is, remembering he is only 25 and has ridden Rolette less than a year and has taken her from jumping 1.30 locally to now possibly the olympics.
In terms of some of his critics on here, i've heard that the main source of the problem has been banned from the forum and is in fact a complete trouble maker who is clearly jealous of any success Ben has!

Really pleased to hear that Ben is doing so well. I don't know what has been said about him on the forum, but I met him when I went to have a look at Cilla Humphrey's stallion, Utah van Erperkom, who Ben was riding at that point, and he was really friendly and helpful, and gave us lots of time - so I only have really good impressions of him!

Hmm what about peter charles though???

I think it's possibly just a little too soon for Peter and Rupert R....they've just not had the time or opportunties to prove themselves at the highest level yet.

I think Ellen's chances are now gone....she had two bites at the cherry (Rotterdam and probably Aachen)...she now almost certainly won't be going to Aachen....so game over. I still reckon Nick is a stronger contender with Russell than most give him credit for....and Robert with Vangelis could be in with a shout !? John and Tim...still certs...Michael probable....Ben likely....and Nick for the five

I also think Nick would be a good 5th, but not sure if he's allowed or not? Its too late for Robert Smith as he has only had one good result. I think John, Michael, Tim and Ben will be the four and it could be between Nick and Peter for fourth.
If this does happen what an experience and acheivement for Ben at such a young age.
I know I am bias being such a fan of his, but I truly am so happy at the success he's having!

i think when Ben was so well placed on his USA dates someone quetioned Rolettes ablityto jump a true 1.60 course. well it looked damn good to me just now and some of the best in the world are in the field in todays grand prix

Rolette looked fabulous in the grand prix. 4th with a good double clear - exactly whats wanted for the olympics. What a brilliant show for Ben, I cant see how they cant pick him!

Having "talent spotted" Rolette early last year before Ben got the ride, I'm pleased to see how well the pair are performing. The Rotterdam performances have to give them a good chance of making the Olympic squad, as we are not exactly spoiled for choice now.

I really hope they pick Ben. Brits Olympic history has shown that the young ones, often included late into the teams, bring home the goods. The same old same old has been tried tested and failed time and time again at Olympic level. Come on selectors get brave, stop treating selection like an old boy's club and wake up to reality.

Go Ben!
I am big fan,I think he has the mentality to cope with the olympic hype, which will be one of the most important criteria this time IMO.
(Also he once sms'd congrats when my horsey jumped well)
