January:
2009 started a bit dramatically when Alfie was rushed back down to Rossdales after complications with his keratoma. We dropped a very lame Alfie down there in the New Year and after a lot of highs and lows, over 5 weeks later we picked him up and brought him home. Here's a few pics of him in hospital:
February:
February saw lots of snowfall and the start of a few flatwork lessons with my cob where he went really well and surprised everyone with his stressage moves!!
March:
This month saw Alfie go back to Rossdales for a final check up and he was discharged, we weren't sure whether he would ever come 100% sound again but were told to bring him back into very light work and to see what happened. This was also the month Alfie got turned out for the first time in over 8 months, it was fabulous to see him out in the field again! Twirly went to his first combined training competition and got placed.
April:
In April, i had a fabulous break in Devon with my OH and we started the search for a new horse for my mum, she hasn't ridden for years and after looking after my horses for so long, wanted one all for herself, so on April 14th this lovely little lady entered our lives Ballinton Islay Jolly (Islay) a 6 year old Highland pony, she truly is a perfect young lady:
May:
In May i did a bit of showjumping with little Twirl and then he went on his holidays so i could spend some more time with my babies. I started to back Evie who at first was very wary of everything but soon became so happy in her work she was there queueing at the gate every morning waiting to be tacked up. Started quietly doing a bit with Tilly my other 4 year old as well as she was recovering from a virus. Here's some pics of them all in May:
and Islay started her showing career, within 2 shows she had won all of her Mountain and Moorland classes and had qualified for the Equestrian Life Championships, Royal London, and the Festival of Champions, we were all absolutely chuffed to bits with her:
June:
June saw more shows with Islay and qualifications to Equifest and Ponies UK Glyn Greenwood Championships and of course more playing with the babies, where they perfected strutting their stuff and longlining:
July:
Islay went to the Festival of champions and won a big plate and lots of rosettes, we were so so proud of her and she kept up her unbeaten run in Mountain and Moorland classes, sadly this was to be her last show of 2009 but we were very pleased she went out on a high and we are very excited about 2010 with her. This month also saw the day when i sat on Evie for the first time. I was over the moon by how she behaved, she was an angel:
August:
I brought Alfie back into work in August which resulted in a very happy Alfie, he was slightly tubby and rather sharp with having so long off but it was lovely to be back on board him, something which i never thought would happen again. Twirlie came back into work too, ready to do a bit in the autumn. Also had a makeover with the babies in the sun:
September:
I continued to do a bit more with Evie before turning her away and she proved to be a very good girl, i continued to slowly get Alfie fitter and stronger and my 21 year old Benji went to his first show in 3 years and did very well indeed, getting placed in his veteran and turnout class. Twirly also enjoyed himself hunter trialling and having a go at Bloodhounding.
October:
Twirly went showing and thoroughly enjoyed himself and got placed too and also helped give lessons to my OH when my mum and dad went on holiday.
November:
Last month i took Twirl dressaging for the first time indoors and like the true pro that he is, he was fab and did a lovely test and came 3rd, i was so happy with him!!
December
.....and finally December, not much to report as most of it has seen the start of the new Ice Age, but before we had all this atrocious weather i managed to take some improved pics of Alfie 4 months on from the fat flabby Alfie in August . Sadly i didn't get any ridden pics of him but im really looking forward to 2010 and competing with him and all of the others.
I know i perhaps haven't achieved as much as some of you this year but i have had so much fun and im just so relieved i didn't lose my precious boy earlier on in the year, heres to 2010 and an even better year with more highs and hopefully even fewer lows!!
Thanks for looking and lots of christmas pudding, chocolates and Port to all of you who have got this far!!
Merry Christmas!!
