Bens first show... Come and join us...

He looked very smart, shame he got so over excited and found the whole showing lark a bit much today but at least you can be better prepared for RC, the only time I tried the magic calmer the pony behaved worse than he ever had before, never used the other syringes as it seemed to do more harm than good.

A double is a good idea, he may be so busy thinking about the strange new feeling he manages to concentrate on the job required. He loaded well, traveled well so there are plenty of positives the rest will come with time to get him more settled.

Lovely photos, left little message in the Photo Gallery, but have to say again he looks great and its all down to experience, and you have to start some where and as you said there were good bits and you just have to work on the parts that did not go as well, but you had a good day and enjoyed it, so well done to the pair of you x

Hi well done on your first day out

A tip you might be interested in ... someone I know shows coloureds at HOYS level and she uses the shaped gamgee with bandages over night so the hocks and knees don't get dirty again.

She pastes up the legs at night puts on gamgee and bandages and then does not take them off until she gets to the show ground. This might just make the mornings a bit less rushed for you.

If you don't fancy the double, or if he doesn't like it go for a mullen mouth long shank Pelham - they will stop a rhino:D I know this from experience - but make sure he knows what the curb chain does before your show!

Well done and good luck

ETA if you don't use a hood overnight - use hairspray (I like ellnet for the job) (sp) and tights with bands over - this will stop the bitty pieces

Hi there, and thank you, as you know I was hugely worried about turnout and am majorly impressed with the achievement on that front!

Interesting that you should say that about the calmer, my friend/groom said exactly the same thing on the phone.

Yes, I really do feel very positive about today. he loaded and travellend exceptionally well, especially to load without question or hesitation on the way home, another couple of positives were how calm I remained and the fact that despite the fact that he 'felt' ready to explode, he didn't, he tried really really hard to deal with everything.

I keep saying double but I mean pelham:o. I have a rugby Pelham that we are going to try with him, but I believe we are taking a bradoon etc too. I think the poll pressure will really help, as you say just the focus of a strange thing in the mouth could really help, but also the action helping to drop that head which in turn will trigger his own internal 'happy pills' to kick in :p

Thank you so much, we did have a good day and I thoroughly enjoyed it:D. As you say now its a case of working on the not so good parts;) but a good deal to be very proud of.

Hi and thank you :D. For turnout last night I did wrap up, but using the shaped pads for overnight aswell as travelling is a good idea, thank you.

Totally my mistake but it is a rugby Pelham I'm using, I will however be taking the double too, we are riding tomorrow for him to get used to it. :)

Think you all for some really lovely comments ad tips, just woke up dizzy from not drinking enough water (probably why a glass of wine went straight to my head:p) so I went to grab some water, saw these posts and had to respond. Thank you all. X
