Over this winter ben has lost a bit of condition, he has grown a wee bit and Im not overly worried as the spring is on its way. However his coat is not shiny and I would describe him as moderately thin, in that he is just under par. He is packed full of ad lib hay - has been all winter. He was on Fast fibre in the summer, then went onto alfa oil which didn't suit him with his barefeet. So I popped him onto hi fi light and added a conditioning mix... went through two bags and saw some improvement but not much and again... didn't like the starch content so decided to source something more appropriate for him.

So today I went and got some linseed, and some rice bran oil.

His new diet is:
Hi Fi Lite - 2 scoops
1 cup of linseed (130g)
small slug of rice bran oil

(split between 2 feeds)

I don't want to over do the conditioning side of it as I know he will start to creep up with the spring grass, so I am starting with a cup and have the capacity to add more if needed.

He has been wormed, and had teeth done, he isn't losing condition, just doesn't look tip top to my mind, although some of this will be due to not having worked for the last 3 months (had winter hols) so obviously muscle is lacking. And bearing in mind I am just about to start working him... he will need something more... hence the diet change.

Just a query or two though,

Would you stick at just the 130g for now or add a bit more?

Also I will need to mail order some linseed, I have just paid £9 for 3kg, none of the feed merchants can get it in in bulk or larger tubs... I have seen some companies that do 20 kg for about £18-20 but i just don't know which feed companies online are reliable. So any recommendations for where to buy online?

PAI think most of us here buy from Charnwood milling online. I do get my feed merchant to buy it n for me though so I don't foot the postage costs.

Charnwood milling linseed is £28 delivered. Someone posted a link on here that I copied into the linseed topic in the Scotland section that sells it for £18 (£25 delivered). That's for 20kg bags.

Ideal, I was considering charnwood, but I also saw a scottish company (highland i think) that fits the description, although was wondering if delivery would be more expensive to cornwall

Thank you all, will get some from one of the above suppliers... would you say 130g is adequate for now? he is 15.3 but as I said, only slightly under par and with the spring grass coming and the fact he now has a bit of rice bran oil i don't want to over do it.

QB- the link that Clava posted above is the cheapest delivered I've seen. £3.50 cheaper than ordering direct ;)

I know! isn't that ridiculous that the supplier making the stuff is more expensive.
