Benson21

Maybe there is a kind HHO member not far from Bailey who would be willing to go and view him for you in the meantime, to suss out the lay of the land so to speak????

(I'm in Shropshire but I would certainly offer if I were closer)

I'd be happy to go view any in Herts/Essex area if you spot anything you fancy :)

Thats really kind, thank you. And thank you all for all the help and support you are giving me, it really is appriciated. I just wish I wasnt such a ditherer, and could make a decision!

am i the only person who still wants to go and buy that horse? despite knowing who's selling...?

what if he really IS that FABBY?

No, I want to go and look as well but I've just bought another one, shall we go together so we can talk each other out of it?

I'm at the very far north of Cambs. I'm an older heavier rider who is definitely keen on the saner beasts in life. Let me know if you'd like me to go have a look for you - or I'm happy to collect anyone else who wants to go and see him as well for you on my way past them if that helps.

I'm happy to do so, as long as he isn't to far from me...
Benson21, whereabouts does Bailey live?

Right, have got hold of them again, he is betweem Horncaster and Louth - remember I dont know the area so I dont know if spelling is right!!! Postcode is LN9 6QN

Martlin, that is so good of you, let me speak to my husband tonight and see what he thinks of him first, as I dont want to waste your time. I know lots are saying a 15.2hh would be fine for me, but thats the only part of him thats not ticking my box. I will get back to you. xx

No worries:)
You would obviously have to tell me what you are expecting from a horse and so on.
But as long as you can arrange things (I hate ringing strangers) I'm happy to turn up, ride it etc.

Benson21, give up for a little while and grieve for your old horse. You sound in such a rush to replace him and you are not going to find a horse to match him. Take time out please.:(:(

I agree, I don't think you are ready or really know what you want. Let it just happen....it has to be your decision....no offence to HHOs but if you don't want a 15.2hh then you don't want one...end of.

I have already called and spoke to a man that is selling him for a friend, which may well be fine, but then I start getting suspicious as to why cant the friend sell him themselves. I think because we have had such a rough time with charlie, I am being over cautious.

I wouldn't let this concern you too much, I only met my horse's previous owner at the vetting - she had asked a friend to do the selling as she was more able to 'demonstrate' and could 'vet' the potential buyers without getting emotional.

So pleased we ticked all the boxes :)

I thought I was looking for a 15.2 but ended up with a 14.2, we fit each other just fine.

Of course the decision can only be made by you but I am 5'81/2" and certainly not a slim build. My own horse is 16.3 IDx but while she is off work atm I have been having lessons on a 15.3 cob which is not as heavy as Bailey seems to be and have felt absolutely fine. He appears to have some Shire in him, looking at that feather. I have had heavy horses in the past and they can carry just about their own weight again lol. Incidentally, until she retired I used to ride our 14.3 cob and never felt under-horsed, she certainly took the leg up in her width.
If you want some-one to look at anything in W.Yorks/E Lancs, just let me know. I much prefer the type of horse you are looking for to the spindly sharp type.

QR to those saying 'it's too soon'

I realise you are making these comments with the best of intentions but please let Benson21 make up her own mind about whether or not she is ready to find a new horse yet... I lost a horse in a similar accident many years ago and, with the best of intentions, my family tried to stop me visiting my boys stable, going riding or buying another horse and it was terribly detrimental to my recovery.

If Benson21 feels ready please offer your support or stay quiet :)

I lost my horse Charlie a 5-6 weeks ago and was absolutely devastated, I adored him more than anyone could imagine and miss him every minute of every day. Half of me thought I wasnt ready for another horse as I just wanted Charlie back, end of but the other half of me knew he wasnt coming back and knew having another horse may help.

So last week through word of mouth (I let him find me) I bought Hugo and I cant tell you how much it has helped me and my other horse. At the end of the day I am saying that if it happens it happens, if not its not meant to be.

PS Bailey looks aweseome and reminds me a little of my Charlie cow cob x

Just add about grieving for a horse etc. I put Winston into my field the evening I lost my ex racer Woody. I took Toffee and Winston for a hack as Toffee was very confused about being left all alone and we turned them out together that evening. I think she grieved more than me she just hung off Winston all week but wouldnt be caught or touched her hard feed. But having some one new to concentrate on helped. Its very individual I think.

Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. I understand where some are coming from when they say allow myself time to grieve, but I really feel that our plan is the idea we are sticking to. I cant ride at the moment, but if we find a suitable horse now, my husband can be riding, getting it used to its new enviroment, so when I finally start to ride, it is not going to be worried about a new place. And I am not trying to replace Benson, that would be impossible as he was one of a kind.

Need to reassess my glasses prescription, I read the previous post about Winston as being in "Dorset", not "Dover"!!
Realise now it's the same horse...
I was so pleased with myself for finding him!
He's gorgeous - good luck to Toffee & Benson got everything crossed for you x

Benson, have you seen this one? In KENT!!!
I know you are going to see Winston, but this is so local!
