Fed up with Mr awkward-in beween a cob and a full sizes bridles. Peices from 2 different size bridles to make one, not looking pretty or fitting the best !
For a made to measure one what would I be looking at price wise ? Couple of hundred? For a plain cavesson.
Or if anyone else however who has the same problem before if you can recomend a good brand?

Tbh I think Im probably going the made to measure :/ I can imagine having a perfect fit is worth the cost.

Either that or find a supplier that do mixed parts, for example my friend has a jeffries bridle which she has bought cob cheek pieces, full noseband and just a proper mix of pieces.

I had a made to measure hunter bridle, complete with bradoon sliphead to convert it to a double, laced reins and 2 sets of leather reins for nearer a hundred than two hundred pounds, 3 years ago.
It took a couple of weeks following taking the measurements but I could choose everything, the shape of buckles, type of fittings, width of noseband and browband etc. It's fab and with looking-after should see the young Welsh maid out!

My draught horse has a strange sized head and even buying different bridle parts in different sizes didn't fit! So I had a bespoke bridle made for her by my saddler-cost about £150 :( but looks great and more importantly it fits!! Finally!

Both my everyday home bridle and competition bridles were made by the same person. I am positive for a plain cavesson bridle you would be looking at less than £100 including postage. I love both my bridles, mine were both over £100 though as I have raised browband and noseband with padding and fancy stitching :)

I also have my bridles made to measure - looking at between £90-£120 .. I often buy reins off the shelf though as they don't need to be special!

Lots of companies will put you a bridle together out of different sized bits if you give them a call directly. Keep in mind things like if you use a show browband or a bling one, then no need to buy one you don't need if you are buying bits or getting one made. Same applies if you like your reins! Only order what you need and that will save you money whichever option you choose! My mare came with a heritage bridle which was nice enough, but it was a couple of years old and I thought had worn fairly badly as it looked ancient! Good value for money though as it was at least soft and I think it is english leather too. Stroud saddlery make lovely bespoke stuff http://www.stroudsaddlery.co.uk/
Hope this doesn't count as advertising, but just for infos sake - I make bespoke tack. For best british bridle leather, top quality fittings and all totally hand cut, stiched (with two needles and thread - not just pushed through a machine by hand!) and finished to your exact requirements would be about £200. Obv as the requirements like raised noseband etc add on then the price rises too due to the extra time spent on it!

Lucy was the strangest size pony in the world. (For starters she was only 13.2hh and needed a 5ft9 rug  ) Bridles where a nightmare to buy. Nothing ever fitted her. Untill I desided to splash out on a lovely double bridle from fyled saddelry. They are a little more expencive than most but are realy good quality and look amazing. We ordered Lucy a cob size which didn't realy fit so I sent some parts back and they sent me a diffrent size to try at no extra cost :) In the end we had an amazing bridle that fitted perfectly :D The only problem was she only wore it 3 times in the end :( :(
Luckly I can't bare to part with it as I don't think there is another horse in the world it would fit :p ;) :)

I have the same problem, only my horse is part full / part pony! bridle wise, so ive just had to buy the individual pieces separately unfort. I did look into having a saddler shorten the cheek pieces, but it was just cheaper to buy new.

Not sure what I will do when I can afford a more expensive one or its time for a double , i think it maybe bespoke time then

Hope this isnt classed as advertising, but I had one made up recently by Pioneer Harnesses,

their website is here, http://www.pioneerendurance.co.uk

everything is bespoke so she made it up to the size I wanted, because thats a problem I also had previously, akward sized horse and I had a lot of trouble finding one which fitted well, went through and tried quite a few and in the end had to give up and get 1 made up lol.

Antoher vote for Jefferies - I bought a full size bridle for my horse but the browband was too small, I wrote to them and they asked me to take measurements and provided me with a made-to-measure browband for no extra cost. Fantastic service and excellent quality - was really impressed.

I wouldnt have said my horse was an awkward size as he has my old mares Jefferies full size bridle with the buckles towards the top end, so not a big full size but when I came to trying to buy him a new one, nothing seemed to fit him. I tried a Dever Full size (cheap in sale) and it wouldnt go near him, try the extra full, still not big enough. Bought a 2 Dobart bridles off Ebay new in full size. The snaffle noseband just fits, the double bridle seems smaller so I know wont go near him but the browbands seem massive on both, so I bought a new head piece for my old bridle and the throat lash is tiny! Never seemed to have any problems getting bridles to fit when we were kids?? I think although a full size should be universal what ever the make but it seems it isnt but Im sure somewhere out there a make will fit. Just a pain finding it.

If it's any help the only full size bridle that really fits my inbetweeny horse well is a Jefferies Wembley flash (the cheaper range of Jeffries) with a couple of extra holes punched in noseband and flash strap.
I feel your pain, I want a nice everyday comfy cavesson and I can't find one. I have settled for a cheap-ish ebay comfort bridle in full size and took the flash off and put holes in it. I know an excellent tack repair man who will shorten straps where necessary so it fits. I can now keep his Jefferies one nice for competitions.

Try Evison Equine, www.evisonequine.co.uk, although they dont have made to measure on their website, give them a call and they will often do you a custom bridle. They all have the comfort headpiece with a choice of nosebands, reins are not included and i think mine cost me around £75.

I had to get Jefferies
Full size headpiece
Ex Full browband
Cob noseband
Pony cheeks (too long)
6" bit

to fit my Connemara, I got a made to measure from Kis Vihar saddlery in Hungary on the internet

Very good service, and not expensive around £ 50 I can check if you like. Fit is mainly down to your own measuring, I was very happy with mine . I got Jefferies Biogrip reins half price in a closing down sale so I used those but she makes Biogrip type reins as well .
