best “deep clean” shampoo for greasy ponies?

planning on clipping the 2nd week of oct on my annual leave, but going to HOYS in the 1st week, so naturally i need something to add to my shopping list!

most of my shampoo’s are “shiny” shampoos, and i’ve found when clipping they still have a bit of rump grease, so i need something a bit more hardcore.

neither of them have had a bath in a while, so i’m going to have to bring out the big guns😂
 
I have one of those hose attachments with the bit for the soap mixing with the water and for degreasing I use fairy liquid first then hibiscus scrub second. Then a rinse usually with a lavender and tee tree rinse. That’s a deep clean for him. He usually gets that treatment before a clip or a show.
 
Dermoline insect shampoo!
Discovered by accident but still the only thing that's ever gotten a squeaky clean finish on the toughest challenge... the grubby greasy and outrageously hairy little shetland!
I always go in with a curry comb or grooming gloves but it really does shift all the scurf and grease beautifully 😊

oh yes dilute cider vinegar in hot water too. That definitely helps (and I am no expert in cleaning horses so if it works for me it'll work for anyone). I forgot about that.....I didn't rug mine last winter so he didn't really get greasy, just plain dirty. But the vinegar cuts through the grease.

Yes! Another vote for these, but the car cleaning one off Amazon for £10, different head shapes to really get the shampoo in there, I tend to give filthy ponies a good curry comb when soapy to get to the root of the issue.

No idea on best shampoo, I buy what’s on offer!

i’ve had one of these but i didn’t rate it! i just have one of the hose heads with multiple settings now.

i usually hot cloth with dettol which definitely gives me good results, i think i’ll have to do that the day before bathing well as after clipping😂

Mine is a generic one for cars. I didn’t buy into the nonsense one that was breaking. I’ve had it three years now 😆

I find it helps me with my spinal damage get the suds into the coat easier for me to curry it in 😃

That’s what got 😃not the terrible pony thing that was getting branded about 😂😂
 
Fairy definitely will remove the grease, it’s useful if you want squeaky clean to clip and are going to rug up afterwards. Dermoline is also very good but costs a few more pennies/ pounds.

I got a dog-bathing glove for my birthday which has proven excellent for getting shampoo into the greasy bits, so you could have a browse for one of those! Mine is the WAHL one! Softer than a rubber curry comb so you can use it on leggies and pointy bit without annoying them.
 
Carr, Day and Martin extra strength shampoo is great I find, but I have also used NAF Show Off, Absorbine 2 in 1, Cowboy Magic and Wahl Dirty Beastie with great effect too x
 
Fairy liquid and a good scrub with Hands On grooming gloves or rather the cheap copies, which are pretty much identical (I use them for almost everything grooming wise, I love them) followed by a second wash with Head and Shoulders to soothe things in case the Fairy Liquid was a bit harsh.

I do this the day before and rug lightly then do a hot clothing with diluted white vinegar just before clipping.
 
I use the Wahl Tea Tree one on my mare as she's got quite sensitive skin, it does a really good job of cleaning and lifting any grease. She always looks super shiny after a bath too
 
I use Head & Shoulders every time. Apparently (the hairdressers on here will know this!) it has the effect of having a "stripping" effect on coloured hair - which if you've got any colour on your own hair isn't the best product you can use as it will take it out!).

But I discovered it on a Sweet Itch FB group when I had my old boy, who had SI, and it was always being recommended as it also contains something which is a calming agent.

Personally I would never use Fairy Liquid on a horse's coat; this kind of detergent too harsh IMO.
