OK, have finally got some cash together for a trailer and that is now (hopefully) sorted :D :D

Was thinking about towing with my estate (company car) but on reflection have decided that I would prefer to get something more capable and fit for purpose and am now on depleted funds and looking to spend about a grand (preferably less). I've been looking at Shoguns, Discos and Fourtraks (like rocking horse doo dah). My brain is now fried ;) :D so your help and opinions would be most welcome.

Some left over pancakes, strawberries, cream and maple syrup for those who can help!! :D

Check out Land Rover Freelanders, Jeep Cherokee, Vauxhall Frontera, Kia Sportage, Ford Maverick all safely within the 1k mark - but go for diesels as they're all heavy drinkers.

:)

No disrespect strikethelwell, but please don't entertain a freelander or frontera.

In an older car (£1000 or less, not going to be newish) both of these
are bags of problems.

NO disrespect taken as it were but it depends where the cars have come from - some are bags of nails and some pampered tin boxes that have been fully serviced and never seen a puddle. :)

Had a fourtrack years ago and loved it.

Borrowed a Cheeroke and it was gutless (pulling single trailer with 14.3 1/4 horse) and drank fuel for a past time - AVOID

Discos have a very good rep

Freelanders - again gutless and that's before you even put a trailer on the back and try towing with them. There is also the problem with vehicle gross weight vs towing weight. The FL is often too light for the loads you are pulling (or something along those lines).

Friend has just got a Trooper and love it.

Definately don't get a petrol version of anything.

I am in same situation as yourself and need to get myself a towing vehcile. Am now considering a good sized estate with a decent engine. Have been looking at Subaru Forester. Not the prettiest vehicle but have a good build quality / engine etc.
