Best alternatives to cold hosing

Pricey though in comparison to the other options, I'll stick with my human ones, mostly because they are always in the freezer anyway

Maybe pricey - but stay frozen up to an hour - fit well round the leg don't burn and last for years, so over time and the amount they have been used it works out pennies every time I use it.

One of my human gel packs is about 15 years old, I keep moving house with it and Frank is far far too hairy to worry about burning!

I've bought these - a bit more expensive than ice bags and bandaging method but it's so convenient (keep mine in freezer ready to use) and can be put onto leg within seconds:
