Hi have two of my ponies insurances up for renewal but just not sure to stick with where I am or to move on. It's expensive but I have also heard good and bad, but hav heard the same about many insurance companies, which leaves me confused. I have two Welshs, ones 9 and the others 4.
Who do you use/used and good or bad.

KBIS for me and they have been fantastic. No quibbles with a massive claim for ulcers including lots of prescribed supplements etc. Also everyone I spoke to was lovely and horsey :)

Think most will know the worst by a long shot , do that actually ever even pay out..??? My vets warned me off them near 15 years ago
E&L

I had good experience with NFU paid out a small fortune and SEIS to

Most are good companies & have been mentioned above. Also as mentioned above steer well clear of E&L & other insurance companies they own. I cannot remember the names of their others but if you read the small print you'll find out. They offer considerably cheaper premiums but they are obstructive when you try to claim, wether it be for treatment for your horse or when trying to claim for stolen tack in burglary. Any claim from them can go on for months & months. I know many people who eventually gave up, & this is what E&L do, they grind you down with irrelevent questions.

SEIB are good, I had claimes in for lameness then my boy was killed in a freak accident and they paid me within a few days no dramas. Only thing is with new horse they put the premium up due to previous claim. Currently with KBIS - not had to claime (touch wood ) as of yet but heard lots of good things about them and they cover a lot of activities without massive premium increases.

We've had good expereinces with both SEIB and KBIS. At renewal we tend to just go with which ever offers the better deal. However the woman who owned one of the ponies competed by us has had terrible trouble with Pet Plan when her pony died.

Pet Plan without a doubt, been very unlucky with numerous horses over last 6-7 years, they have paid out over 14 claims for me totalling £50k at least, just paid two claims last month for me totalling £2k and just sent 3 claim forms for my current mare which will probably total another £8-9k in the end!!

They have been absolutely fantastic, premiums have never gone up, never refused to pay out and no silly exclusions only the obvious!

Would never insure with anyone else

I'm with AmTrust and they've been brilliant - paid out for my mare's condition without a quibble and were genuinely upset when I rang them to tell them I'd had her PTS. They are run by horsey people so you don't have to explain stuff either, they just get it.

I'm with petplan and they paid out just fine for my horse's colic incident, very quickly too, and straight to the vet. Friend insured with horse insurance.co.uk who I believe are a trading name of EandL and has had her full limit of vet fees paid out no problem at all on two of her horses. With one they've also paid for remedial farriery for almost a year too. Agree that I've heard lots of stories about how bad they've been in the past but maybe they're changing things now? Don't think I'd use them though just in case but friend has 10 horses with the two mentioned being unplanned arrivals so in her mind better some insurance than none.
