Henry is Frontlined and has a Scalibor tick collar - both from the vets so a bit pricey but he has had no ticks since starting to wear it. You can get them cheaper online.

Thanks. Hes at the vets soon for his booster so will get some Frontline.
Do they just wear the tick collar when they are out walking?

ick - just had to pull one out of my dogs nose - was tiny - thought it was a wart! I can count 6 legs i think is that them all? it burst some grey gunk all over my fingers - this was before i twigged what it was!

We are off to the vets tomorrow for some frontline - i'm too squeemish for this!!! will get a puller outer - this is the first one i have ever seen and have had dogs for 10 years!!

Better go nd check there aren't any more of the buggers hiding.....

I've tried everything my vets have to offer (Frontline, Exspot and Scalibor mainly) through the years and nothing have ever worked 100%. Except staying indoors altogether, I don't think you can ever count on completely avoiding ticks. And don't forget, some still jumps on your dog out on the walk and only realises they don't want to feed on the dog in your home, where they jump off and begins looking for another victim...

Also never forget that the stuff you can buy at the vets, are basically an insect pesticide that you somehow put straight on to your dogs skin. Treat it with respect and never overdose, allergic reactions to them is not unknown.

By the way, after the last morning walk we found at least 6 ticks crawling on our floor, out looking for somebody else than my dogs to eat from...

Scalibor collars should always be removed if the dog goes for a swim in the sea, a lake or stream, the thing that deter/kills the ticks is also very harmful for fish and other aquatic organisms!

At least it says so clearly both on my package and on the homepage of the Medical Products Agency (the Swedish national authority responsible for regulation and surveillance of the development, manufacturing and marketing of drugs and other medicinal products).

Ooops the vet never mentioned that and I didn't see it on the packaging... will take it off Henry in future when he goes swimming.

Still, really good for stopping ticks though!

As I understand it, the difference lay in that Exspot and Frontline so to say goes into the skin, just below the top layer of skin but the stuff from a Scalibor collar spreads out on the surface of the skin.

Thank you guys very helpful.

The collar is out of the question because he jumps in every puddle/stream/lake/river/ditch...I could go on.... you can think of!! (Seriously he would find you water in the dessert!

)

I'll get something from the vet and always check him regulary.

My dad had one on his leg the other day

On the leg, my God, in general I get about 5 to 10 per year and if I only all of them had decided to feed from my legs... I recently confessed on another post (that I can't find) about ticks that I once, after spending x amount of time crouching over a mirror trying to get a good grip with any of my tick-removing thingies, that I had to call my mother and bend over!

advantix very good but if you have a cat do not use it as it's very toxic for cats.....

If cat present then frontline is your best bet.
