As title really. Okay, I may be living in cloud cuckoo land,(but we can all dream) but where would I move to to get excellent and extensive riding? My dream would be bridle tracks/common land/moorland/National Trust that is accessible with minimal road riding. Are you lucky enough to have riding like this?

I live in East Powys (Radnorshire) i.e. a LD postcode. I can ride all day / week and hardly ever go on a road. The countryside is amazing, you would have the fittest horse in the UK (nothing but up & down huge hills), people are nice and horse-aware. Downside is endless gates - but you get good at them. Have a look on on the OS Get-a map - focus on New Radnor or Hundred House and see how many bridlepaths there are, you will be amazed.

I'm in the peak district and we have direct access onto NT moorland and Chatsworth is within a 15 mins hack or 2 mins in the box. Can ride in the parkland there. Tissington trail is nearby as well.

New Forest....nuff said!:D

Quite, can't believe you would even consider anywhere else, our idea of a busy road is having to wait for 2 cars to pass before we can cross, even then we can do a 2 hour ride from my yard without even crossing a road! The thought of having to ride on a road sounds positvely gastly :) :p

Both the New Forest and Powys sound wonderful, but I think I would have to plump for Wales as I believe property prices are rather high in the New Forest. Thanks for your input - I'm off to look at the map!

Leicestershire/Rutland border. :D Renowned for having some of the best hacking the world! :) We have lots of bridleways and you can literally go for miles without going on any roads. Also, we have very varied country with lots of hills.
