We have just had our local show and the numbers for our affiliated classes were quite low, the unaffiliated classes had really high attendance and thanks to all on here who came. We always clash with Scope but because it is an agricultural show the date can't be changed. Some years the classes are really well attended and others, like this year, struggle. I'm trying to persuade the committee to carry on holding the showjumping, we just about broke even this year but would ideally like to make a little profit and I think members of the public love to watch it. Can't hold a qualifier as it's on at the same time as Scope but wondered which classes you lovely H&H'ers had noticed were really popular. We hold British Novice, Discovery, Newcomers, a 1.15 Open, a Foxhunters and a 1.30 Open. We put prize money up a couple of years ago. Any suggestions?

You could try capping the entry fee (one of my local agricultural shows has BSJA entry fees at £8 per class, yet still pay out £50 first prizes (as well as down to 6th no matter how many in class). Can you offer other prizes - like a rug or trophy etc. to the winners? Are the newcomer and foxhunter classes opens as well? If not, that would seriously reduce your entries.

Thanks for your suggestions. One class I am considering is a 1m Amateur - BS suggested speaking to Blue Chip but they weren't very hopeful. Our entry fees aren't very high anyway, I daren't take them any lower, the prizes are not bad for an agricultural show, worth competing for. It really is a lottery as last year in similar classes we did really well.
