Hello all,

My boy is now in for winter (winter turnout is a luxury around here unfortunately!) and he’s started filling in his hind legs. He gets 1-1.5hr turnout a day and is exercised and his legs reduce so putting it down to him being stabled for longer as they seem to fill up overnight.

Im looking at getting some stable bandages to bandage his legs overnight to prevent them filling and looking for some recommendations of the best ones to get?

Also looking for recommendations for stable wraps/ boots for the occasional nights when I’m working late and my friend sorts him to make her life easier so she doesn’t have to bandage 🤦🏻‍♀️

Have started him on marigold and cleavers to help with lymphatic drainage as my older cob is already on this for cpl 😊

Any other advice is greatly appreciated!

I have some Equiline woollen stable bandages that just never seem to look tired. Eskadron bandages are also great quality, but make sure you buy proper stable bandages and not fleece ones. You can’t beat the Eskadron bandage pads either IME 😁.

I use Equilibrium magnetic chaps. They do a non magnetic version too. I’ve also got Thermatex wraps which are very good. They all work to reduce filling to some extent, but the magnetic ones are by far the best.

I have use the Eskadron bandage pads they are the best ones I have but I normally just use fleece bandages over them, I don't really use them much now anyway as mine are out most of the time.

I would say the bandaging is more important than the wraps used so I’m not helpful here but I’d definitely look at what is being fed before finding a feeding solution or adding. Have you checked for tiny scabs or cuts in the heels etc as could also be mild mud fever, it’s been very wet….

You might also find that he adapts quite quickly. My boy is on box rest and for the first 1-2 weeks his legs filled quite badly) Then he seemed to adapt and they stopped filling (just when I had bought a 2nd set of pads & bandages as I was expecting to need to continue bandaging 🙄)
But I’m pleased I could stop bandaging.
