I have decided to try my gelding barefoot, he is quite a hardly little thing, and we dont do a lot of roadwork as my yard is on a 1500 acre estate, where all of my hacking is done, roadwork would be 100 yards or so max.

Couold anybody reccommend an allround hoofcare oil I can out on his feet to keep them in good condition, they are not prone to cracking etc, but I just want to be on the safe side.

Thanks

Do you really need something? If your horse has good feet it will only need gentle 'breaking' to harden the feet naturally. That is, don't ush out onto hard ground for miles.

The best thing to put on a natural hoof is absolutely nothing.

Nutrition is the most important thing.

My TB is barefoot. I feed Biotin daily in his feed and use carr & day & martin hoof moisturiser about 2-3 times a week, more in summer. I do use hoof hardener very occasionally but the moisturiser seems to keep his hooves in good condition.

I've had my TB barefoot for nearly a year, he had appalling feet last year, always cracking etc, my farrier at the time said it was a waste of time putting on any products and that the best thing he could recommend was lard, (don't laugh), have been using this for the last year, and I have to say, its as good as anything and more to the point, cheap!!!
