As above really, my ginger boy is prone to mud fever when it gets very wet and am wondering what I can slather on his legs to prevent it. He doesn't live out btw, only out in the day.

Sudocream mixed with some sulphur and tea tree oil - ratio 1 heaped tablespoon cream, 1 teaspoon sulphur, 5 drops of oil. You can substitute the sudocream for udder cream which is less expensive.

The mix works great on MF, cuts and grazes, mite sores etc.

You can also use pig oil and sulphur on the legs - but do a patch test first and some have been known to react to it. Just put on with a paint brush and the mud slips off when it dries.

Someone on here mentioned about Olive Oil to keep the wet off the legs, so I have been putting it on my horse everyday ready for the wet weather, I don't know if it works yet though, time will tell

I've just started using pig oil and sulphur and can't rate it highly enough.

Pig oil & sulphur is great on the legs, but be careful- I overdid it under Lucy's belly (where she is also prone to mud fever) and the girth rubbed it in and burnt her

Well, to go completely against the grain, I like Muddy Marvel barrier cream (think it's part of the Nettex range).
