I'm asking on behalf of FoxhillBelle who many of you will know had a very nasty colic yesterday. She's out of the woods now but her owner wants to change her bedding away from straw. I know what I think would be best but wanted to see what others thought as well.

She's looking for something absorbent and good value to go down on rubber matting.

Thanks

I've picked shavings as its the only bedding I've used with rubber mats

And another - although I have used pellets without mats and if I wasn't getting shavings free I would seriousy consider them on the back half of my stables.

I use paper. Take the wet out everyday. No dust, no ammonia, no smell. Much better for the horses respiratory system and takes no time at all to muck out.

Ive picked hemcore as its similiar to shavings but more absorbant.I mix hemcore and shavings use hc were she pees and pile up shavings for nice soft fluffy bed.

I use bedmax and megazorb mixed with rubber matting. Mares are very wet and the bedmax was not absorbant enough so combination works really well.
