Best Bedding?

I'm moving yards next weekend with my two horses and I'm looking for the best bedding to put them on. My TB gelding is a very dirty horse so I usually use straw but my new YO is allergic so I have to use shavings or similar. She uses Bliss currently.

Question is, which bedding is best?

Bliss, Snowflake Shavings, Thoroughbred Shavings, Alto Bedding or something different? These are the ones I have seen in our local feed store.

I have to have a large bed for my gelding as he is terrible for lying down and getting cast, so he usually has a huge base and huge straw banks, so I'm looking for something that isn't going to cost a fortune but will be good for a wet horse.

Thanks!

There is no such thing as best!

Depends on what suits you and your horse - though if you really need big banks there is nothing that beats straw.

I use miscanthus, it works well for my set up. But have used bliss, chopped rape, aubiose, all good but not quite as good as the miscanthus for me.

I personally can't work with shavings because it sticks to everything :) if your YO uses bliss and gets in bulk then I would think this is the way to go. I find with wet horses it is best to semi or full deep litter.

I would still be using straw if YO wasn't allergic. I've only ever used shavings for my mare before so i think i will try the bliss and if that doesn't take, i will just use shavings. Thank you.
